To be the best, you have to beat the best. And that's what the Meridian football team hopes to do this Saturday.

The Mustangs, 9-1 and ranked No. 2 in Division 6, play No. 1 Montague (10-0) - the defending Division 6 champion - at 1 p.m. Saturday in a district
championship game at Holton High School, near Muskegon.
"You can say it's No. 1 vs. No. 2, and a lot of people have said that to me," said Mustangs' coach Keith Schulte. "But there's one
team, Montague, and then there's everybody else. Until you beat No. 1, you're just part of the pack."

Likewise, Wildcats' coach Pat Collins has a lot of respect for the Mustangs.

"They're a tremendous team that's put together a great season," Collins said. "They're very fast, and...

A request was made for some playoff thoughts so here goes the short version.....

D6
Montague, I feel anyway, is a clear favorite in D6. I'm guessing they get by Lakeview fairly easily, maybe have a little challenge with Sanford Meridian,
and then head North to take on a tough Calumet team. After that....it is the winner of the Ithaca St Charles rematch which could be interesting and then MSMCC
in the Finals. Montgaue has a ton of weapons on Offense and a D1 caliber QB distributing the ball to them. Most teams are going to have a hard time defending
this Montague Offense. And you'll notice when the Gue played in bad conditions, on a sloppy field, the Defense rose to the occasion and shut the other team
out. Well Coached, lots of weapons, and Montague kids live for Football = hard team to beat.

D7
Ravenna gets a young Saugatuck team at home in round 1. Ravenna is better than they were last year..... and I doubt Saugatuck can say the same....

Mason County Central ( 2 - 6 ) v. LUDINGTON ( 1 - 7 )

Montague ( 8 - 0 ) v. FREMONT ( 7 - 1 )

Both teams have qualified for the playoffs, now it's just a matter of playoff points and trying to get as many home field playoff games as possible. Both
these teams feature pass happy Offenses, but Montague Running game should be the difference. Montague 42 Fremont 28

Mason County Central is the next victim of Montague's high scoring Offense. Cats win 48 - 18

North Muskegon is in real danger of going from 5-1 to 5-4. If Oakridge was able to run for 417 yards against the Norse what will Ravenna do?

NORTH MUSKEGON ( 5 - 1 ) v. Muskegon Oakridge ( 4 - 2 )
North Muskegon has been playing with Heart, and did a good job of containing Whitehall's running game. The Norse have surprised me thus far, and will have
a shot in this game, but that Oakridge win over a good Ravenna team makes me think they aren't as "down" as some think. Potts win's the QB
battle (which might eb a good one) and the Eagles win 28 - 21

After back to back frustrating weeks for Ravenna, in comes Hart. Bulldogs win big 42 - 0
Even though Shelby is 3-3 , two of the losses are by a combined 8 points. The Shelby Defense is playing well this year giving up under 13 points a game.
Montague is in the drivers seat and has a favorable schedule to finish 9-0. Cant afford a let down here. Cats win 42-21

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL ( 2 - 3 ) v. Shelby ( 2 - 3 )
Did Mason County Central really score 42 points in last weeks game with the Norse? The Spartans will find the points harder to come by this week against a
tough Shelby Defense. One of these teams gets the dreaded 4th loss this week. I'll guess it's MCC. Tigers win 28 - 14

MONTAGUE ( 5 - 0 ) v. Ravenna ( 4 - 1 )
Can Ravenna be the first team to hold Montague under 40 points this season? I'm thinking not. Montague keeps it rollin. Wildcats 42 Ravenna 21
MUSKEGON OAKRIDGE ( 3 - 2 ) v. Hart ( 0 - 5 )
Oakridge can breathe a little easier with that win over Ravenna last week and Hart coming into town this week. Eagles get a chance to work on some things, rest
some kids, and get ready for North Muskegon in week 7. Oakridge wins 42 - 0

I'm gonna throw a guess out there that Shelby will actually score some points this week, and probably take out some frustrations on Hart. Tigers win 40 - 0

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL ( 2 - 2 ) v. North Muskegon ( 3 - 1 )
I just don't see Mason County being capable of pulling the upset. The Norse know they have a tough schedule ahead and can't afford a slip up here.
Norse win 28 - 14

MUSKEGON OAKRIDGE (2- 2 ) v. Ravenna ( 4 - 0 )
The game of the week in the WMC. Hard for me to believe it but I'm gonna guess that Oakridge falls to 2-3 on the season. Won't be as ugly as the
Montague game though. Dogs win 28 - 14
WHITEHALL ( 2 - 2 ) v. Montague ( 4 - 0 )
Whitehall fan's are hoping that maybe Montague will have a "let down" of some sort after the big win over Oakridge? Doubt it. This point machine
keeps rollin and the Cats put on another offensive clinic. Cats win 42 - 13

MONTAGUE ( 3 - 0 ) v. Muskegon Oakridge ( 3 - 0 )
Game of the week in the WMC. Something just doesn't feel right to me with this Oakridge team. The loss to Heights (c'mon we all know what happened) and
the close victory over a Whitehall team that was just totally dominated by Ravenna. But maybe the convincing win over a 2-0 Mason County team straightened
things out for the Eagles? Also appears that Oakridge is going to rely on Potts a bit more, going to a spread Offense. Montague on the other hand has been on
fire. The Cats showed some issues on the Defensive side of the ball against North Muskegon (I guess you could say the same with Oakridge against Heights). But
the Montague Offense has been putting up some serious numbers. This will absolutely be the battle of the QB's and I'll go...

Oakridge is 2-0. Barely. Forfeit win over a Heights team that had their way with them and a 4 point win over Whitehall. Mason County is 2-0 but have they

This should be a good one. Shelby hasn't been scoring a lot of points but the Shelby Defense has been decent, giving up 27 to Ravenna and 0 to Grant. I
think North Muskegon gained a lot of confidence last week, hanging in there and doing some positive things against Montague. The Norse will come out and play

Came down to a last minute field goal last year. Ravenna returns pretty much everyone from that game, Shelby doesn't. I'm thinking that Shelby wants
