The cupboard is nearly bare, the new guy has his work cut out for him. Unfortunatley he has retained two coaches that should have been let go and who the kids
not only don't like but hate. So, the turn out for football is very small. Hopefully coach will see this and make some adjustments. It could be a long
tough season for the Falcons again...

Coaches and student atheletes are practicing this week as if they were in the playoffs. The kids are going through drills and running plays... working on the
basics. It is awesome to see all the sophmores, and juniors out there going at it. These kids want to play! They have bought into Coaches system, and want to
get better. This is a testiment to how effective Coach Greg Hudkins and the rest of his staff have been in re-entergizing this program. Here is a big tip of my
favorite old EK hat to the Coaches, staff, and atheletes of the East kentwood football teams!

Coach is a hard nosed old school football coach. However, did you notice that the entire coaching staff was teaching technique the entire game. No screaming
onbsenities, no throwing head gear. They were engaging the kids in each and every play on the sidelines. The kids were encouraged by the staff when they made
good plays. Regardless of the win and loss record this year, this entire program continues to improve and that positive attitude is carrying over into the
hallways. Greg Hudkins and his staff are doing a fantastic job with our kids. Hopefully he can get a win at Jenison, but even if he doesn't, they will work
hard to end the year with a great showing with Rockford. There is no quit in these kids and this staff!

I had a chance to see EK this weekend and I must say I do see some evidence of rebuilding in spite of the score. If I remember correctly, the tv announcer said
the entire backfield were composed of juniors, and they did what they could. I saw EK make some adjustments, try new things and generally they didn't give
up inspite of the lopsided score. There was some discipline and not many holding penalties were called and no unsportsmanlike conduct calls were made. They did
put together a couple of drives and the qb did a nice job rolling out and throwing or running if he had too. I would say give the coach 3 to 5 years to see
what he can do but not to expect a quick turnaround.

Exactly. It is not so much about winning and losing in 7th and 8th grade as it is about having fun and LEARNING THE GAME! Some over zealous folks just
don't (or don't want to) get that. This year is going to help these kids catch up and be competitive as freshmen. And, we can see who the late bloomers
are as each kid gets a lot p/t.

Actually when I was at EK we never had traveling teams. We had 4 color teams for 78ers. It was fun. The thing is that we had 2 squads on each team. So with the
reserves we ended up having close to 200 to 300 boys playing. It went down after that when they start having the kids travel. The other thing, this keeps
expenses down. One thing you have to understand for the Delaware or Bay City T, having more experince in the system means faster picking up come freshman ball.

I like the idea. Maybe in addition to this setup they could have and "all star team" from this league that plays a few games against other schools.
EK has a large diverse student body and getting more kids participating will only help, not hurt the team.

Another possible issue is the number of teams. If you have 8 crappy teams then your top players don't develop as well as they would if you had 4 or 6 good
teams. I'd say give the coach credit for being innovative. We'll soon see how well this works or doesn't work.

They are trying to get the fundamentals drilled into these kids for this offense and defense. The up side is that the teams rotate (by week) getting to play in
the big stadium under the lights. 4 teams going at it from their respective 40 yard lines. They hope that they will only have to do this for this year. And as
I mentioned above, the kids get 250% more pt. That keeps the kids in the game and interested. In fact, the enrollment has gone up not down. And of course there
are treats, pizza etc after. There will be a banquet after the season. It is a tough call for the coach, and an unpopular one. However, he has to do something
to get an influx of football basic knowledge into these kids. Eddie really left the program a mess.

As for this week, Hudsy come to town. We are looking at a very tough test for our new offense. Should be interesting. I have been drafted to work the chain
gang. So, I will once again have one of the best seats in the house!

Muskyfan - great question. I run the chain gang for the frosh and jv games, so I get an up close and personal look at it. It took Eddie three years to destroy
this program, and it will not be rebuilt in one year. However, Coach Greg has a unique and effective way of rebuilding. Starting with the Seventy-Eighters...
he is not scheduling games. You might have read about this over on M-live as a particular players Mom isn't happy with this approach. He has six or eight

execution has returned to this level, as the kids seem to know what to do each snap of the ball. Sop as they master one thing, they build and go onto the next.
