team than I do, and I think I might be buying into the Shamrocks in 08.

If you believe the slappies, CC should have it's best group of weapons (although young) that they've had since their title runs in 2001-2003.

That's a great point about the senior leadership, Blue. If I recall correctly that was post season postmortem on the 2004 team, which seemingly had the
talent.

I recall some of Derek's first carries against 'The Big Boys' when he was called up as a frosh (I was corrected here on this class some time ago)
Suffice to say, his frosh carries did not resemble his carries in subsequent years....to say the very least.

It's also funny how such a dominant HS RB can go to a relatively small college program (certainly he did not go to a small institution) and have little FB
success. I'll wager he had academic success though. I wonder how that is looking on his resume now? Education: PRINCETON

At any rate, your thread got me much more pumped up for this coming season.

While the 1997 team did start mostly juniors and one sophomore, they (we) also had a group of 4 or 5 seniors (Sgroi, Tubaro, Herman, Dueweke,Spolsky) that
provided great leadership, and they were as much a factor keeping the team together and helping us believe than the talent in the junior class.

I believe as much as the talent in the 11th and 10th grade needs to mature quickly for the 2008 season to be a great success, the few seniors that will be out
there HAVE to be the leaders on the team. When the games get tight in the 4th quarter, you look to your seniors/leaders.

The juniors on that team were not very good as freshmen, and as was stated was dominant on the JV level. But we also did not have a single sophomore playing
on the varsity team. It's funny how things have changed. Aside from the Mike Martin's, very few of the groups of 10th graders would have even been on
the varsity team back in the 90s. For a stretch it was a big deal if more than...

Blue/ez,

I have stated on a few occasions in the past that I believe CC is a team this year that will be young and inexperienced, but not lacking talent. It is funny
that you mention 97', because that is how I see this years team. Not that I am predicting a State Championship, but I firmly believe that this will be a
team that will not just take the standard moderate steps toward improvement from week to week, but rather large steps and will be a group to reckon with toward
the end of the season. If they can find their way into the playoffs, they will have a legitimate shot at making some noise.

There is no doubt that Rice/OLSM/DLS are and should be placed ahead of CC coming into the season. It is not that there is a huge talent gap between them, but
because the talent at Rice/OLSM/DLS is Senior laden and that will be the difference in the early part of the year. In addition, I am very familiar with all 4
Senior groups and it is not only that the SR groups...

ez/Searn, you just described every year in the CHSL. The only diff, year year, to is who the preseason top tier teams are gonna be. Of late it has been BBR and
olsm. I am not down on the team by any stretch and really hope that Blue is correct. But using specific examples, 'they' knew, pretty early on that the
class of 04 (2003 team) were gonna be special. I'm just suggesting to Blue who to ask to get an objective opinion - depending on how long he has been out,
or how connected he has maintained, he may or may not feel comfortable in asking this person.

And I rarely use the JV Frosh teams to suggest more than a trend. Too many intangibles, just as you pointed out

If you believe the slappies, CC should have it's best group of weapons (although young) that they've had since their title runs in 2001-2003.

CC for the past 15-20 years has consistently had an offensive line in the top 5-10% of the state, but in some years has lacked the firepower at the skill

If what I'm hearing is right, we could see some things from the Shamrocks in 2008, that we have never seen before --- and some of the insiders are excited
about it. These slappies/insiders are also realistic in knowing that the CHSL Central Division schedule is a bear, and 2 losses would be a GREAT season.
