BigReds is right, 4 or 5 seconds is usually the max....also, I've seen teams use only 6 defenders. Coach's logic was this "Hey, in many of our defensive sets, we only allocate 6 to pass coverage, why have the kids practice with 7 in pass coverage on every play?". He's right, teams pass frequently pass on 1st and 2nd downs when defenses are aligned to stop the run first, hence less pass coverage. A good idea to be sure.

Passing leagues are kind of a joke in some respects....there are some good things to get out of them but......i was was at one this summer with a pretty well known team and they were running delayed streak routes with their tailback straight up the middle of the field....that would mean that there was 5 recievers on routes and a qb with 10 plus seconds to throw....apparently they dont plan on having to go through linemen this year. Also, Muskegon used a lot of different players in different games so I don't know if Dewitt beat Muskegon's A team or not. Muskegon did look a little flat against Mona Shores in a 7 on 7 earlier this summer, FWIW.

Well Dewitt will see where they stand in D3 before the season because I'm pretty sure their preseason scrimmage is against EGR

I'll add to what everyone else has said and state that 7 on 7's mean nothing in the big scheme of things. A team could dominate everyone they play in 7 on 7 and just get shut down when the pads are on and blocking & running and all-out defense come into play and go 0-9. With that said, DeWitt is due for another deep playoff run, and yet another heartbreak, as they won't get by EGR in D3 should that be where they fall.

Dewitt also won the 7 on 7 tourney at Dakota defeating the Cougars in the finals. I have never put much stock into 7 on 7's or scrimmages translating to success when the real season starts. Each team approaches them differently,trying to accomplish different goals. and prepares differently or not at all.

I heard that DeWitt just recently beat Muskegon in a 7 on 7 passing game, but I'm not sure if its true. I haven't really been keeping up with all of the 7 on 7's and what not, and I know in the grand scheme of things, 7 on 7's don't really tell you how good a team is gonna be the upcoming season. It would be quite a feet however if DeWitt really did beat the mighty Big Reds of Muskegon. Can any Muskegon fans or DeWitt fans shed some light on this?
