How many years has Marine City been in the MAC Gold? How many MAC Gold titles do they have? I'm guessing the answers to those two questions involve very
similar numbers. How can you not pick Marine City to win this league until they show some sign that they won't?

I have the upmost respect for Marine City and the things their program has accomplished over the years. I do want to know how the MAC officials can justify
them playing in this division. The league schedule should be easy enough and then to have them play a team like Clawson in week 4 that is half their size and
can't even be mentioned in the same sentence if you are talking strength of program. I am a huge fan of the MAC but things like this just don't add
up.

I just wrote a long response to this, which was lost in cyberspace. I'll now give the short version.
Marine City is only 800 students, they belong in the Gold. East Detroit and LC have no business in this Class B league. Marysville and Fitz should be up here and ED and LC should just deal with being the doormats of the Class A leagues instead of moving down to a Class B league to try and get some wins. MC v. Clawson is awful, but not as bad as Clawson v. Lake Shore (500 kids v. 1,200 kids). I have a feeling MC did not want Clawson, but Clawson is the new kid on the block and got stuck with the cross-over that none of the Bronze/Silver teams wanted. Just a hunch. |

macguru wrote: What I find funny about that post is that I remember back in the SCAL days, before this whole MAC stuff and Marine City played the likes of: - Algonac - Richmond - Croswell-Lexington - St. Clair - Imlay City - Marysville There'd then be a tough game with someone like Jackson Lumen Christi and an easier game against someone like Yale. I only mention that because I looked at their schedule this year...and I can't find another school that is class B that plays as tough a schedule as they do. Every other game is against a Class A school. And they WIN...which is amazing in my book. I guess if ya want to start moving teams up a class or 2...start with Muskegon Catholic Central...is there a Class D team that has a chance? |

However, realize that the number doesn't include SCAL titles from before they joined the MAC. You can count 90-91 and I believe 93-94. I think they've (MC) made the playoffs every year (except one) since 1983-84. And I think Marysville won in 92-93 and 94-95 as well as just about every year before 90-91 dating back to like 85 when Marine City won it and then 78 when Marine City won it. That leaves just 91-92 and 89-90 where I think Marine City, Marysville, and Imlay City shared it (each lost to each other). |

With such dominance...there must be a doormat or 2 or 3. Richmond, for example, from 1986-87 to 92-93 won 6 games...5 of which were against class C or D
opponents. In 89-90, they were outscored 423-22! Including a 77-0 loss to Saginaw Swan Valley (3-5), a 58-0 loss to Cros-Lex (4-5), and a 62-0 loss to Marine
City (6-3). And then there's Algonac...that from 1993-94 to 95-96 won 2 games and included a 2-year stretch where they were outscored 775-96 where their
opponents scored less than 32 points against them only once. I remember seeing Marine City play Richmond in 91-92 and it was sad. Marine City had like 50-80
players on the sidelines and Richmond had like 15 players total. They had to play offense and defense the whole game.

macguru wrote: Here's a scenario for you MAC fans. What if... What if Marine City and Clintondale were moved up to MAC Blue and Roseville and Fraser were moved down to MAC Gold? And lets take it one step further and say that the new MAC manadate regarding schedules forced teams in each MAC division (except Red and Bronze) to play 2 schools in MAC divisions below them, one from the division at least one above them, and one from the division at least 2 divisions above? Lets say Clintondale takes Mt. Clemens from the Bronze and SCS Lakeview from the Silver. Marine City would take Marysville from the silver and St. Clair from the gold. Clintondale then would take Warren Cousino from MAC white and Romeo from MAC Red. Marine City would take Warren Mott from MAC white and Macomb Dakota from MAC Red. Based on this year's performance, that would lead to a 2009 that looks like this:
That leaves them at 7-2 with a playoff score of approximately 97.330. Clintondale would have the following results:
That would put Clintondale at 7-2 with a playoff score of approximately 88.444. My point is just that even if Clintondale or Marine City got moved up, they'd probably still win. It would be more interesting to see...I agree with you there...but what happens when a school like Port Huron or Sterling Heights has a stellar year? MC or Clintondale could quickly end up with 5-4 records simply because they are playing schools that are much larger than they are and would miss the playoffs where they would certainly be able to trounce schools of their same size. Personally, I'd like to see a MAC Blue that looks like this:
Realize, however, that MC and Clintondale are schools of about 800 students where as the other schools range from 1440-1840...thus, MC and Clintondale play in the less challenging MAC Gold.
