You could be right ... But sometimes in the end some predictions that seem laughable turn out to be correct ..... and some of the "sure things" turn out to be laughable. He probably knows the team much better than I, but a team that has a program that produces 30+ straight winning seasons, has key players returning from a state finalist season, and has a Big Ten bound senior QB is likely to be a little better than he makes them out to be.

It's not an issue to me of not returning good players, it's a matter of who they lost. Maxwell and Moulton are both VERY good, but Midland lost the next top 10 players. Colter Roberson was the only one who belonged on the field against MLK, Andrew Grillo was one of the best linemen Midland has ever had, Prokop and Parsons just plain knew where to be on every play...they have a new head coach...all they have right now is Maxwell and Moulton and that's it. The rest of the team is basically last year's JV, which granted were good, but there's no way they come close to replicating last season. I'm a firm believer that Arthur Hill in the same conference is a better team than Midland, this season. Yes, Midland is good and will probably be 9-2 or 10-1 to end the season, but people are predicting them to be one of the favorites in D-2, it seems, when they just plain don't have the raw talent, experience, or coaching, to do so. Senior Posts: 64 08/14/08 3:28 PM	Fair enough, Kleshreen. I just suspect that, while you clearly know the team, they might surprise you. You see teams lose lots of talent every year and somehow get the job done with kids who step up a notch or two from their Jr. to Sr. year. We'll see soon enough - I can't wait for the first week of action.

Freshmen Unranked Walkon Posts: 3 08/16/08 7:27 PM	Well, Maybe Midland being 5 is a bit high, but look at it this way. This team reloads about every year. This year they have the added benefit of having 2 and maybe 3 D-1 players on the squad. I don't know if the chemics will run the table, but I've got to say they'll be favored in every game of the regular season. Just a parent that likes sports

In most years, I would probably have ranked Midland like you did (15). I think they were somewhere between 10 and 15 on my first draft. Then, as Andrew Maxwell's rating seemed to be getting higher and higher and word came out that a Div. 1 (Northwestern) receiver who was hurt last year was back this year (Albrecht, I believe), plus their other returners from last year (three on offense, three on defense return), I felt they derseved a higher ranking going into the seasson. It's certainly not unheard of for a team to lose in the final game, then come back to win it all the next year. They did lose a lot to graduation, particularly on the line, but good teams are usually able to re-load on the line. They had several big boys (250 lb.+) who were underclassmen. If some of those big returning lineman are good, Midland will deserve its high ranking and will likely go pretty deep in the playoffs.

All-State Posts: 536 08/18/08 8:53 PM	Drew Moulton...not Albrecht. I just tend to think that last year's Midland squad was a fluke. They always have a couple good players (Kicker/Parsons, Maxwell/Roberson, now Maxwell/Moulton) but then the rest of the players are average at best. They always benefited from GREAT coaching by Wilczek on gamedays. They will never have the raw talent to beat the Detroit schools or Grand Rapids-area schools (Muskegon) at this point. They should have gotten beat by Davison last year, and Lowell handed them Ford Field on a silver platter. I have no doubt that Midland will probably go 9-0 during the season, probably 10-0 or 11-0 (if Arthur Hill doesn't beat them, and I think AH is better than Midland) since they'll just be facing 2 SVL opponents for their first two games in the playoffs, but then they're done, IMO. Everyone has their rights to their opinion though. Me being a BCW fan has nothing to do with anything I post. Plain and simple. If it did, I wouldn't be saying Partlo is better than Schaaf and that Arthur Hill should easily go 9-0... And I definitely don't go out of my way...it's just that the SVL is what I'm most familiar with so I'll always throw an opinion out there for SVL teams... Grand Valley State - NATIONAL CHAMPS AGAIN!
