Here is the jest, My uncle's friend has designed a few stadiums around town here in GR. I wont name names but I was talking my uncle one day about EKs new stadium. He mentioned that schools just say I want a 10k seat stadium and thats what you get them. The key thing to remember when you do plan a stadium are these facts. First you need to have walkways to get people out. I think he said something like the number of people in a row is determined by how wide the stairs are. Its some formula the fire departments have and what not but it works out to make it easy for the designer. Now the thing is that if you design a stadium with say a 12" per person your rows would then have to be shorter and your space for stairs increases to the length of the rows. So if you use a 24" per person you then run the risk of the fire department causing issues with overcrowding. So must designers are now using 18" or 21". That makes it a lot easier on the portions of the rows for seating and stairs. The only thing you have to remember is that all of this is only for bleacher style seating. Once you get into actual seats then the numbers get very precise and you can actually count the capacity.

Given this I came up with the idea of one solid method to do capacity on my site (which needs a major overhaul very soon). The plan as stated above is very simple. Take the number of rows times the length of the stands and then divide that by 2ft per person. So for EK it came out to 7200. The school and architect (who I spoke to) said it was 7500 at 18" per person. So given that I was quite pleased with the system and let it be public knowledge. Now some of the folks were scratching their heads about the length aspect. Well it is very simple. Just go to each end of the stands and look at the feild. It should have yard markings on it that are very accurate. That means you can get the length very easy and very simply.

As for the game I attended that had the largest capacity. Well it was two to be honest and both had Muskegon. The first one occured back in '02 with the Div 1 Region 1 finals. That game was a great one between EK and Muskegon. The next one was a classic that I will never forget. It was two years ago in the District finals I believe between Lowell and Muskegon. Both seemed to have well over 10k at each game. The FHC site for the 02 game it was just amazing. I have never heard in my life a school having to stop letting people in. If you never seen jammed packed like sardines that game was it. The had the entire field surronded with people. It amazed me when they let specatators 10yards from the playing field. The game at Lowell was much better for breath ability but thats about it. It was still funny when the announcer got mad for people sitting the LHS rocks.
