While this is still unofficial - teams have until Tuesday to make corrections - and is of course very early in the process, everybody wants to know about the playoffs. Still six weeks away from 'knowing' who is in, and who is out, it is not to early to start the speculation process. Since the season is nine weeks long I take the number of wins and multiply by three. (Obviously this will not hold true, I know that, you know that, please don't tell me.) This is not a prognostication, this is how the divisions would break if today were 'Selection Sunday' - which we all know it's not. Taking all teams with three wins as 'In' (126 teams) and all teams with 2-1 records. There are 182 teams. With 308 we have to pare off 13 teams in each division to get to our 256 number. Ties among teams with the same playoff average are broken with rounds of Rock-Paper-Scissors at MHSAA headquarters by each team's starting left offensive guard. Using the MHSAA's rules for dividing the divisions by size this is how they break down. Please wait until all 8 are posted before commenting, then have at it. Questions will be answered, so ask away.

It adds 4 more A's & B teams & 1 more C team over the alternate method I used last year. Possibly more realistic. Have at it. All play-off qualifications are based on current records only. All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 5794 09/15/08 10:21 PM MHSAA Football Stats	Nice work and everything AuldSchool, but are you sure that there are no errors on the MSHAA website? I found a ton of won loss records to be inaccurate before I emailed my game predictions out to people Sunday morning. I haven't had a chance to see if Andy found them all yet. Basically 308/8 = 38.5 teams per division Division 1 = 1 - 38 Division 2 = 39 - 77 Division 3 = 78 - 115 Division 4 = 116 - 154 Division 5 = 155 - 192 Division 6 = 193 - 230 Division 7 = 231 - 269 Division 8 = 270 - 308 Right off hand I would say that there is too many Class C teams in Division 8 since I don't ever recall there being over 2 handfuls in division 8 before. Novi either lost on the rock paper scissors method or had a lower CPA number. Based on the early AuldSchool material it appears that the Maples could be heading east for the D3 playoffs. It's way too early for that, but with the one caveat it looks fairly decent to me so far. Clarkston, Lake Orion, Macomb Dakota, and Romeo would make for one heck of a district. Detroit Henry Ford could move to Region 2 while Waterford Mott could move to Region 3 so that might be one change that I would make to my initial list so far. Went back and looked at last years and agreed with your post that A's division I looked low, so this year I cut lowest averages in all classes instead of adding from 2-1 pile. This added some A's & B's at the expense of D's. i doubt we'll ever get the perfect formula. All play-off qualifications are based on current records only. No predictions of future games are used. The required 6 wins will be modified to reflect games played, and the number 'auto' qualifiers will be stated in first post of the thread. I notice you also left off Detroit Catholic Central, probably because you only used 3-0 and 2-1 teams. But in the case of DCC, wouldn't a 2-0 team playing an 8 game schedule would rank higher than a 2-1 team? Just curious.
