This is just one of the reasons why the MHSAA needs to standardize the punishment for all schools. Basically I've been saying this on here for the past couple of years. Basically I've lost all respect for Coach Carter over this incident.

So much for the Inkster kid being innocent until proven guilty. He admited his guilt to the police. Plus Coach Carter is putting fans lives in danger since a weapon was involved in the episode. How does he know that the player won't bring a gun to the school or game? What makes a juvenile any different than an adult when they commit a crime? Nothing in my opinion. If I was the publisher, I would feel free to publish both names since they both commited the crime. This isn't the same as being the victim of a rape or something along those lines.

TOMMY, A few things

* I did not anywhere say that Carter was POS for helping troubled kids - so please don't put words in my mouth. Doing so does two things: It diminishes your position, and it incenses the person you are debating with.

You are right on this one

* And at this time Coach Carter and Norman are NOT simply helping 'troubled kids' The article said they both gave statements admitting their involvment. So at the very least Coaches are 'helping' miscreants; probably soon to be felons.

The supposed statements mean nothing until they are proven guilty...That is something given to each and every person in this country...So until that time comes, you are assuming..

* I'm all for helping troubled kds, but I am all for accountability too. These kids can be helped after they take responsibility for their actions. Continuing to play FB because it might help their future is not taking responsibility. They are both old enough to know right from wrong. This was not a 'mistake' or a shoplift, but a deliberate, willful, and violent attack, with weapon, against a woman.

That one has pleaded guilty to and should not be playing...The other has not and should not be assumed guilty until the time comes that he has been proven guilty

* You assume too much with people you don't know. At one time I had to personally take accountability for an action that involved the Authorities. I also have had the even less pleasant experience of demanding the same of other people close to me. So don't suggest that others cannot empathize because you assume to know their life circumstances. But regardless of circumstances, or privlege, backgroun, or neighborhood location, we are talking about common values that ALL people should share - one being you don't physically harm other people or make them fear for their lives.

What is? Supporting a kid that has had nothing proven against him yet?

* As someone who has coached hundreds of kids (not HS FB) I can truly understand where Carter's and Norman's hearts are probably at. Unfortunately they are both wrong. What they are not taking into consideration are the other kids they are cheating of a TRUE life lesson by letting these admitted criminals have the reward of playing. Society does not need more privledged athletes, movie stars, whatever, who don't think the rules of society and decency apply to them.

Again, you are assuming that the kid from inkster is a criminal..Where has he been proven guilty?

* Kids need to know that these types of failures are a reflection on all of those around them. It was their own free will that led them to this crime. But somewhere, Mom, Dad, or Reverend did not make a big enough, positive impact on their life. If kids would realize the shame that deserves to be theirs, AND THEIR FAMILIES, I would wager more kids would rethink their actions.

Did'nt they both admit guilt?? I can see trying to keep them active and involved in the program AS LONG AS the poper things are being done with these kids OFF THE FIELD. I am a firm believer in keeping kids busy will help keep them out of trouble. Maybe the kids should practice and travel with the team but not dress for friday nights until this thing is cleared up and some kind of suspension is served.
