This entire point is moot if the teams had "Player Conduct Contract" Then we would not be discussing legal rights with shudder morality or civic responsibility. Although I am sure some A-hole lawyer will attack the legality of those contracts before too long. Also, really don't appreciate your flip response = "pot kettle" Either it was flip or you somehow completely, and amazingly missed the very obvious point of demanding personal responsibility of people for their actions. But since much of society doesn't demand it (credit crunch to mention another current topic) I won't hold that against you. I guess we will agree to disagree. Just remember, FB teams are NOT Democracies, or Constitutionally Limited Republics, TOMMY. They are however Autocracies, sometimes Tyrannies/Monarchies, and in the case of the CHSL maybe even some Theocracies. heheh Btw. I am all for the idea of keeping these kids 'busy' in an effort to keep them outta further trouble. But instead of extending them more priledge in allowing them to play ball, how about have them supervised and work in a battered womens' shelter. Fits the crime. Don't you think? Because he has not yet been convicted of the crime, you should then allow your children to go next door and continue to play with his kids. Sophomore Posts: 86 09/24/08 10:46 AM Junior Varsity	If the players were in college or in the pro's I would look at this situation differently. My position would be I would not kick them off the team until the legal process played out. High school however is different. I believe at that level the coach is also responsible for molding their minds as well as playing football. Some young people need to be taught that you don't put yourself in situations like that. I wouldn't give up on the kid but he would know that they are severe penalties connected to questionable behavior.

The kid is innocent and told coach the truth and he feels ok with him playing. 2. The kid is guilty, and lied to Carter, ... coach trusts him enough and is giving him the benefit of the doubt. 3. The kid told Carter he was involved, Carter decides to play him anyway and is going the "win at all costs"route. .... I'm hoping it's either #1 or #2 "Crank Me Up!"

I really agree with PSL that there are life lessons in sports and that you don't give up on kids. At the same time I don't think you extend privlege, which I think allowing them to play is.

They named one 18-year-old miscreant (not a juvenile) and withheld the name of the other (the 16-year-old). As for innocence until proven guilty: that only applies to the criminal sanction. You are entitled to that presumption before you are subject to criminal penalties. Depriving someone of the privilege of playing football is not a criminal sanction. The coaching staff has every right (and even the obligation) to deprive students of that privilege for allowing themselves to get mixed up with the wrong sort of people and get put in a situation where this sort of thing would happen (just as the Duke Lacrosse players deserved at least some punishment, albeit not the public hanging they received, for having the sort of party they were trying to have and putting themselves in a situation where something could happen that would jeopardize their athletic privileges). That is a subjective assessment, certainly, but it does not appear to me that either coach in this situation has made much of an effort at making such an assessment; they are simply defaulting to the position that it's better to keep the player on the team or "in the system" than not, irrespective of what the facts are. Neither one of their comments suggests that they have talked to the kid to get "his side of the story" and are convinced that he is in the right in some capacity.

What we have here is a case of at least one thug who needs ousting and jail time. I'm a bit confused on the kid Carter has. Has the kid on Inksters team been found guilty or not? If guilty, to jail he should go. If pending a trial, let him play. I wouldn't want to lose my job because I was "accused" of a crime and a kid should not be ousted from a team for mere suspicion. All bets are off though when someone is found guilty. We have kids who get kicked off teams because the haze a fellow member, GPA drops, are absent from school etc. and we have schools letting armed robbers play? BS!
