Good list for the most part. I'd say our biggest disagreement is the placement of Brother Rice vis-a-vis Catholic Central. We both tended to favor our
favorite team in this one. But, let me make an argument for moving Rice up in the rankings, is spite of its 6-3 record. Some would argue a 6-3 team
shouldn't be ranked as high as #10. But, you do have Hudsonville at #10 with a 7-2 record, so given the difference in schedule difficulty, there's not
much difference between the two.
Here's what I looked at when putting Rice up to 10. They scored more points (27) against Muskegon (#1 team) than any other team. They held DeLaSalle (#3 team) to its lowest margin of victory (2 points) than any team. The beat Catholic Central. Detroit Southeastern, ranked higher than BBR, lost to CC, who lost to Rice. I know comparables are hard to factor in this late in the season. There's always going to be a team ranked higher than one it lost to, given upsets that frequently occur. I also believe that record does matter, but it just isn't everything. Also, I tend to reward a team with a better record, even though I realize that team would not beat a team ranked lower. Thus, my ranking of St. Joseph higher than Brother Rice or many other teams for that matter. Fordson and Grand Ledge get their rankings because of their 9-0 records, but I'll take Dakota, CC or Rockford over a Grand Ledge in a head-to-head in the playoffs. I may not agree with others in your final ranking, but it's the positions of CC and BBR that I disagree with most. You can't just go on record, particularly when they played each other and played several common opponents. In just about every instance, BBR fared better than CC in those matchups. How can CC be ranked #15 and BBR ranked # 28? Rice's winning percentage was higher (.666 vs .625) and it's very possible that if CC had played nine games, with a non-conference schedule as difficult as Rice's, they might not have even made the playoffs. Add a tough OK Red team or a good out-of-state team and CC could be looking at a 5-4 record. I would still rank CC, as I did, for the same reasons you did, I just don't feel they belong being ranked above BBR. |

In terms of 7-2 Hudsonville ..
I'd pick Hudsonville to beat CC or Brother Rice, ... Hudsonville by 14+ in either matchup. There's my Hudsonville explanation. Props to DLS, but I think the CHSL (while still one of the top leagues) is probably as down as I've ever seen it .... You've been around the CHSL longer than I have so I'm sure you have seen worse years. I really don't see a huge difference right now regarding any of the teams from around 12-32 ... I just put it together the best I could (in my opinion). And yes, I do believe CC is a SLIGHTLY better team than Brother Rice at this point despite the scoreboard early in the year. I agree that trying to say "who beat who and who beat you" just creates a big circle that eventually makes no sense. I'll give you I'm not certain yet on Grand Ledge ... which is why I have them outside the top 10 despite being 9-0 .... BUT, I do believe Fordson is legit in D1 this year and should go a long way.

In terms of records.
Sometimes I break "ties" in rankings with overall W/L record ... other times I use my best judgment.

Prep,
Compelling argument. But you do know what happens when you mix your blue Kool Aid with orange Kool Aid? You get 'brown' lol (lesson - you shouldn't have traded your Kool Aid. Or at least not mixed them) |

Brother Rice in the top 10? Maybe you should change login names with "BiasedGuy". ----- I hope Brother Rice gets into a playoff game with Adams or Hudsonville --- and luckily Brother Rice wont have to play Rockford or Lake Orion. --- I doubt Brother Rice would beat any of those teams. ---- Where Searn has DCC in relation to the teams ranked below them makes a lot more sense to me.-- Put Brother Rice somewhere between 15 and 20 or lower and prepseer.com might look more like a michigan high school site as opposed to pump up Brother Rice web site.

I forgot to mention that Brother Rice winning a close game to a team under .500 suddenly leap frogs Rice over Rockford, Midland, Hudsonville, Lake Orion, etc.
who have much better season?

There's a lot of leap-frogging in the Final Week as the rankings reflect more where I feel the teams are at the end of the season rather than the slight
adjustment based on the previous week's game.
As for Brother Rice, as I said to Searn, you have a team that scored the most points of any team this year against Muskegon, the state's number one team. They held DeLaSalle, the state's number three team to the lowest margin of victory ( 2 points) of any team. They are healthy again. In the 3 point loss to OLSM, they had six starters out with injuries. And that doesn't count another starter who had already been out with a broken leg suffered in practice after the first game. I don't think there's a team in the state that BBR couldn't beat on any given day. There are a number who they could lose to as well. I'm hoping for a re-match with Muskegon. Or another state final match-up with Lowell. I think Rice would be the underdog against either team, but given the way they are playing now, I like their chances. As for the other teams you mention. All fine teams, but I'm not sure any of them would beat Brother Rice in a playoff game. I've seen Adams and Lake Orion. Rice would beat both. Although, I must admit, I thought Rice would beat Adams last year as well. That was one great game though. I haven't seen Dakota. I'm sure it would be a good game. Could go either way. Rice will likely meet DeLaSalle again. I'm sure DLS is not looking forward to that match-up. It was their toughest game this year and could easily have gone in Rice's favor. I like Rice's chances in a DLS re-match. I think there are a lot of compelling reasons for ranking Brother Rice even higher than #10, but that's as high as I though they could go given the 6-3 record. I certainly respect your right to disagree, Outlander. I don't know which team you follow or how many of the top teams you've seen. Have you seen Brother Rice or DeLaSalle? Or CC. Or, are you basing your comments on press reports, records, blog comments, etc. I say, let them play the games. Anything can happen. All I know is, if I were a coach in Division 2, I would not want to be playing Brother Rice. |

Looks like we'll find out early on Rice/Adams ... .
I have not seen Muskegon .. but I got a chance to see Lowell over the weekend... . If it was not for the name on the jersey (Brother Rice) .... it would be a major upset in my mind if Brother Rice beat Lowell. I honestly believe Lowell would beat Rice by 3-4 Tds.

You say Fordson is legit in D1 but on the other hand you say the CL is "down" this year. Who has Fordson played to prove to you that they are legit this year? Southgate Andersen, AP, really who? DLS has beaten CC twice, once in their house on their homecoming, they went to Columbus and beat a good BW team who was fighting for a playoff spot on their Senior day, they beat BR and OLSMs but according to you the CL is "down" this year. And I agree with prepseer and think BR will be a tough out in D2 on the Eastside. RA will find out soon. Fordson legit and the CL "down" this year, WOW!!! You lose credibility with me with those observations. |

"Down" compared to past seasons? Why because DLS is the undefeated team this year instead of CC or BR like "past seasons"? They (CC,BR)
still had to play DLS, OLSMs and each other. Please hold your judgement as to the CL being "down" this season until they at least get knocked out of
the playoffs. Thanks and PS. you're site for Michigan HS football is one of the few(very few) legit sites.

I've been saying it since I first saw the 4 actual Central members play this year ...
It's possible they could have picked up their play and will make nice playoff runs ... I actually think they have a good chance. A "down" Brother Rice or CC are still Top 32 teams in the state in my opinion.... CC would be my pick to make it to the semi's and if Rice can get by Adams they should go a long way as well. DLS is very good .... probably the best DLS team I have seen. If I were to list the best and worst CC,Rice,OLSM teams I have seen play the past decade + (since about 1994/95) ... . these CC,Rice,OLSM teams would all be on the bottom half or third of that list in comparison to their past teams That is what I mean by down in comparison to past seasons. Any of the 4 would contend for or win most leagues in the state.

Hey Searn, are you going to take the 5 entries or whatever and keep track of pick'em results for the playoffs? I'd love to do that if you are. Gotta
defend my regular season crown

Just like last year ... same format as the regular season.
It's just too time consuming to score everyone's week with the number of participants we've been having ... if we can abide by the "honor system" ... maybe one can keep track of their own records.
