This is a section where fans can ask us MHSAA Hockey officials questions. The only people I would like to respond to questions are MHSAA certified officials.

Will goaltenders be required to wear both a neck guard and a plastic dangler this year? If so, are there

2.) Yes the keeper will have to enter the game cold unless his team chooses to use their time out. 3.) If the 'flapper' cannot be replaced or fixed and there is no goalie for a back up. Then that team will have to skate with 6 skaters until a helmet affixed with a flapper can be worn by the goalie.
Thank you for your question and congrats on being the first one to ask.
(Disclaimer) I do not speak for all MHSAA officials I only speak for myself and any MHSAA official I might converse with. |

Question about defenseman "protecting his area" | #4 | ||
|
I know how it's been NOT called but I'm not sure why.
It seems to me that the ref thinks that there is an unwritten rule that the defenseman can protect his area. (keep the holmstrom type at a distance) |

fastforward wrote: That's actually a pretty good question. I mainly comes down to the fact that hockey is a physical game and pushing/shoving is the only way to clear an opponent from your goalie's crease. Otherwise you are giving him a free pass at screening your goalie. And obviously there are times when it gets a bit too rough and that is when 99% of the time you will see my arm go up. The flipside to that is we have to make sure an actual interference was committed and not that the player just lost his footing from fighting for position with the defensemen. |
