Croswell-Lexington vs Clintondale |
Lead | ||
|
What a horrible game. Cros-Lex definitely deserves credit for the kind've effort and everything they put in...but Clintondale threw that game into the
toilet. I don't know, maybe it was the weather...but they lost that game to a lesser talented team because of a missed PAT (due to 3 consecutive penalties
forcing them back) and two fumbles. Definitely a bummer to see the MAC Gold go out that way...

Short explanation
Cros lex came ready to play. I said on here that i was worried about the weather being a detriment to clintondale. Their speed was neutralized and their pass rush was taken away in the slop. That being said, both teams played with great heart. Fumbles inside their own thirty (2) just killed the dragons. This is a program building year for the dragons. They have many more athletes in the stables. After 4 dissapointing seasons, the culture is getting back to a positive, winning attitude like it was from 99-04. Congrats to cros-lex on an outstanding season. Detroit Country Day is just as fast as clintondale (if not faster) and they will be playing on field turf. No handicap from the sky will level the playing field this week. Good Luck pioneers, make it to ford field and you will be Sanilac county legends. |

I meant no disrespect to Cros-Lex. I was impressed with the way they played. And their fans and cheerleaders were heads and tails above Clintondale's.
Cros-Lex (team, fans, cheerleaders) were energetic, optimistic, and were ready. Clintodale looked like they came out expecting to just roll over the Pioneers.
It looked like Marine City just took too much out of them. They went to MC, beat the rival, then expected to be handed a ticket to play Holland Christian in
the finals.
I thought weather was a huge factor because the Dragons could not get their star RB the kinda foothold he needed to make his cuts and turn on his speed...but I also sort of don't buy it because the Pioneers had no problem throwing the ball and running around on defense.
I was rooting for the MAC Gold, and was obviously disappointed. The lack of focus was evident in the 2 costly fumbles in the 4th quarter and the multiple penalties that led to the missed PAT. And the perception that Clintondale was not putting everything out there was evident when they pretty much drove the field in the final minute to try to win the game. Where was that desire in the first 59 minutes? I'm not dogging the kids from Clintondale, I just feel bad for them because I think they could have easily won that game and will regret some of those mistakes for a lifetime.
I would have loved to see the MAC Gold take it to Country Day again. looks like now I'm forced to pick between the lesser of 2 evils...an elitist Country Day program taking the "easy road" to the state championship or a lucky Cros-Lex team that is not as good as Clintondale made them appear to be. The Blue Water Conference in the State Finals? And it's not even Imlay City!! What's this world coming to!?

Also no disrespect to Cros-Lex, as I didn't see the game but I was wondering if Clintondale could continue to intensity coming off the Marine City win. If
you look back to the regular season meeting between Clintondale and MC, you will notice that the following week the Dragons went out and put up a very poor
performance; they beat a very bad L'Anse Cruese team by one point in week 7.

Exactly. They don't want to get in the habit of playing up to and down to the levels of their opponents. You let lesser teams like Cros-Lex stick around,
this is what happens!

I can't count how many times I've seen a team beat a rival or high ranked opponent, and then have a big letdown the next week and lose. Sounds like
this type of issue haunted Clintondale last weekend. Every playoff season has this exact scenario play out at least several times.
