From a poster on the chsl board ..... anything out of Hudsonville on this? Confirm or Deny ...

CC is trying to get Det. Southeastern again for it's opener but has not received a committment yet. Their second game is home against Hudsonville then at Monroe the third week.

Searn, this is confirmed regarding Hudsonville and yes, no Canadian teams this year

If so I'm not sure I've seen a team with as a tough a first 5 games in the season as Hudsonville come 2009.

I would not be suprised. Hudsy has had some issues with that game. They are a large Div 2 school and as a result its been difficult to get west side teams to play them. Being a Div 2 they could go Grand Rapids PS but thats risky since they are not as strong for their CPA. I think a trip out to the east side would provide a better CPA.

Either way it's bad for the Eagles.

There is a very real chance Hudsonville starts out 0-2 next season, and misses the playoffs with four total loses.

Projected loses:

Lowell - wk 1
Detroit CC - wk 2
Muskegon - wk?
Rockford - wk?

That leaves them at 5-4, and who knows who the third game of the year will be against.

Without the services of Blackport, Jonker, Prince, Keur and the rest of their graduating call things will be bad. Maybe they are gearing up for a run 2010, but even then - I think it's going to be a tough two year stretch with this incoming crew.

If you believe michigan-football.com and if the CC report is accurate the schedule looks like this ...

1 - Lowell
2 - DCC
3 - Rockford
4 - East Kentwood
5 - Muskegon
6 - Grandville
7 - Grand Haven
8 - Holland West Ottawa
9 - Jenison

That would be a tough road for any team .. even if Hudsonville was bringing back a lot of those guys you mentioned.

Hopefully Hville can pull out 5 or 6 wins and get into the playoffs.

I'm not sure how good CC will be, but according to a post on the KLAA board they are bringing back 20 starters (including kicker and punter)

If Hudsonville had returned the group of starters it lost, and if Hudsonville used play calling similar to the end of the season, I say Hudsonville would do this.

Does anybody play a tougher non-con schedule than the Red?
I'm going to research their record in non cons last year in a minute here ...

Some highlights:

Hudsonville plays:
Lake Orion, (12-2, state runner up in 08) (39-10 since 05)
Detroit CC, (6-4, lost in district final in 08) (27-16 since 05)

East Kentwood plays:
Caledonia, (10-1, lost district final to Lowell in 08) (41-8 since 05)
*Still has open date week two*

Muskegon plays:
Detroit MLK, (3-6 in 08) (33-12 since 05)

Rockford plays:
Davison, (9-4 in 08, semifinalist) (37-11 since 05)
Holt, (5-4 in 08) (35-8 since 05)

Grandville plays:
Grand Ledge, (10-1 in 08, lost district final to Rockford in 08) (25-16 since 05)

Jenison plays:
Caledonia, (10-1, lost district final to Lowell in 08) (41-8 since 05)

Non con records:

Muskegon: 2 - 0 (PF 77, PA 27) * 1 opponent made the playoffs
Rockford 2 - 0 (PF 37, PA 26) * both opponents made the playoffs
Hudsonville: 2 - 0 (PF 88, PA 28) *1 opponent made the playoffs, other is out-of-state
West Ottawa: 2 - 0 (PF 57 - PA 35) *1 opponent made the playoffs, other is out-of-state
East Kentwood: 1 - 1 (PF 75, PA 76) * both opponents made the playoffs
Grand Haven: 1 - 1 (PF 43 - PA 52) * both opponents made the playoffs
Grandville: 1 - 1 (PF 85, PA 66) * both opponents made the playoffs
Jenison: 0 - 2 (PF 40, PA 67) * both opponents made the playoffs

Totals: 11 - 5 (PF 502, PA 377)
Out of 16 total games, 13 opponents made the playoffs, and 2 schools were from out of state.
Which means that the OK Red only played one non con game against an MHSAA school that didn't get in.

(Wayland Union, Caledonia, and TC West played 2 OK Red teams each, so they are counted as separate teams here for each time they lined up against an OK Red opponent)

Sidenote:
Totals without Jenison: 11 - 3 (PF 462, PA 310)

Out of the big school conferences ... it's probably safe to say the OK Red plays one of, if not the toughest non-conf schedules as of recent seasons.

This is partly because the OAA and MAC Red basically do not participate in non conference games ... The CHSL plays some tough games and out of state powers, but they also mix in some weaker opponents such as teams from Canada.

Without any research .... I'd say you are right.
