Path to the Draft |

In case people missed it, the "Path to the Draft" started yesterday on the NFL Network. Lions need so much help that they should trade the first
number one overall for two or three first round picks.

It would be nice to see them trade down .... I doubt anyone will bite.
Here is what I would draft.... in no specific order. 2- OL All the rest - Defense

When you look at great teams, they have a good o-line. because of that you need to get OL Andre Smith with the #1 pick. then they have the 20th? with that, i
would really like to see them go after the best defensive guy left. whether that be Ray Maliluga or James Laurenitis, you need to upgrade every aspect of your
defense.

I also believe the first 4 picks should be OL/DL maybe a LB. Line play wins in NFL WR, RB are a dime a dozen and the big names change every year whom the
"greatest" is. Give any QB time and the WR / QB and RB all look like studs.
The key to a great QB is presence and pocket awareness that can not be taught, you have it or you do not. No QB worth the risk this year coming out. Even if there was the porous OL would get him killed. I would be careful about Smith, he missed a BCS Bowl game for contact with agents. Not a real smart thing to do, either he is a idiot and or his agents are shady either way Take a real good look at him, his associations and Wunderlick scores. #1 picks make serious money the LIE-DOWNS can not afford another first round draft pick bust. Like the coaching hires so far, defensive focus. A better defense and the Lions become competitive Backus, Raiola, Cherilus ( spelling? on all ) are decent if the Lions are not playing from 21 down after first quarter. Orlovsky is my pick for the next year until skill is raised through out roster, then see if he has developed enough to be a starter long term. The defense was last in league this has to be addressed. Do not resign Culpepper been useless for 4-5 years way to much money for lack of production. Possibly a good older QB available later in spring training as insurance if Orlovsky, and Stanton are failing badly. Need to find out if these guys can play sometime and I feel Orlovsky is sound not outstanding, this will suffice while team gets a personality and a direction. |

I agree with taking Andre Smith as the first overall if I couldn't trade it, but the pussycats won't do that since they are too stubborn.
I would take a serious look at Brian Cushing of USC for the second first round pick. I'm partial to him since I saw him at the high school level play in quite a few games on the MSG network. It might depend on if a good DL can be found at that spot since the draft never goes as planned that far down. I haven't read what defensive scheme the new coach is bringing to the team so it might make a difference if it is a 3 - 4 or a 4 - 3. |
