Michigan plays 9 regular season and potentially 5 post season games.

Yes, Michigan only has 9 regular season games. When I drew up my wish list, I knew most of the out of state teams were historically good or decent. 8 - 3
last year for Adler means that they went 8 - 2 during the regular season. That's good enough to give Inkster a decent CPA number if they win that game.

At this point I really wouldn't fault Inkster for scheduling some lesser teams ..... even if EK and HP don't end up in the playoffs I think they will
both be teams that could give most teams a good game if not win.
Of the 6 dates filled by Inkster there's really not one game that I'd necessarily write in a 'W' with ink. |

I just read about the Detroit schools that are in bad shape (financially and enrollment) and their plan to shut down a lot of schools. Will this impact Inkster
in any way? Do they play any schools that could be closed?

There seems to be some confusion about the travel that Michigan schools can do, and, vice-versa for teams out of state into Michigan.
Michigan schools can play against ANY school in a bordering state. IE: Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio, regardless of the 300 mile limit. Just look at Muskegon Catholic Central and LaCrosse Aquinas last year. LaCrosse WI is far more than 300 miles from Muskegon. BUT, since Wisconsin is a direct bording state, the 300 mile rule did not apply. Seems that the MHSAA puts the kibosh on any other schools more than 300 miles away. Thus teams in Kentucky that are more than 300 miles away from any Michigan school cannot play a Michigan school, and that includes any possible neutral site games. Hudsonville played Bradley-Bourbonnais IL last year. Yes, Illlinois does not directly border Michigan, but, B-B was not more than 300 miles from Hudsonville, thus the MHSAA allowed the game to go on. However, Escanaba tried to schedule Foley MN again in 2008 (since Esky hosted Foley in 2007). The MSHAA denied the request because of their new 300, non border rule. Foley is way more than 300 miles from Escanaba, thus the MHSAA would not allow the game. It's great that we try to help schools fill out their schedules, especially when there are some A.D.'s at schools that are simply too lazy to do it for themselves. But we have to keep in mind the new rule that the MHSAA has in place now. Menominee and Kingsford used to play teams from around the Minneapolis area. They can no longer do this since both schools are farther than 300 miles from Minneapolis. |

Foley is way more than 300 miles from Escanaba, thus the MHSAA would not allow the game. It wasn't a new rule. This rule has been in place for a very long time now. UP teams Kingsford and Menominee got caught cheating on the 600 miles rule. So would you have been in favor of BBR playing at the Kirk Herbstreit event since that broke the same rule? Seems that the MHSAA puts the kibosh on any other schools more than 300 miles away. Thus teams in Kentucky that are more than 300 miles away from any Michigan school cannot play a Michigan school, and that includes any possible neutral site games. I won't let this go unanswered. I gave my example of Louisville Ballard playing Inkster at Piqua Ohio. Louisville is more than 300 miles from Inkster but they can play the game in Ohio or even in Kentucky if Inkster would be willing to travel that far (but less than the 300 miles one way).

Kingsford and Menominee didnt CHEAT...they followed the rules that the MHSAA allowed them to follow.
The MHSAA did indeed implement a new rule denying any games between teams where the schools were more than 300 mile apart (and if the team was in state that did not border Michigan)> The MHSAA will not allow ANY neutral site games where the out of state (and non bordering state) team is more than 300 miles. The MHSAA will NOT allow any games between these schools to take place at a neutral site. Kingsford, Menominee and Escanaba were all denied games for the 2008 season with teams from Minnesota because of this new rule. This is the same reason that Birmingham Brother RIce was denied playing a game in Ohio last year. THe proposed opponent was not from a state that bordered Michigan directly, and was over 300 miles from Birmingham. Even though the game was scheduled to be played at a neutral site, the MHSAA denied it. For years, the MHSAA had allowed teams to play games against opponents that were more than 300 miles on a game by game basis. Each school wanting to play such a game had to petition the MHSAA, which heard arguments from Michigan schools as to why they wanted to play the game (usually the argument was because the Michigan school had exhausted all other attempts to play other schools within the 300 mile rule). The MHSAA now denies ALL of these petitions regardless of reason. THus, this is the new MHSAA rule regarding the 300 mile. |

Also, for Brother Rice ... I'm pretty sure the proposed opponent was an Ohio school .. the Herbstreit event is all about having Ohio teams vs. Other States .. The reason that was given that they were denied was due to teams from other non-bordering states participating in the same event ... even though Brother Rice was not playing those teams from other states. |

For manowar ...
If Inkster has room for students I would say Detrot school closures could benefit them as they have taken Detroit students in the past and I believe they got some Detroit kids when they closed some schools down prior to the 2007 season. |

Quite frankly if you want to debate the MHSAA mileage rule, let's this thread be about future Inkster opponents or potential opponents for them.

Searn wrote: Searn is right, Brother Rice was scheduled to play an Ohio team (Cincinnati LaSalle), which is both from a bordering state and within 300 miles. The game was to played in a border state and within 300 miles. You can't get more legal than that. But, because there were teams from non-border states beyond 300 miles playing in the same event (Herbstreit), the game was disallowed. Brother Rice and LaSalle even convinced the Herbstreit people to have their game on a separate day from the games that involved the non-border state teams, but the MHSAA balked because the three day event included the illegal teams. This was one of the most outrageous and illogical interpretations of the mileage rule that I can recall. It still upsets me when I think about it. |

Inkster Schedule | #72 | ||
|
I've been gone for a while and I'm just catching up on the Inkster schedule news. Sort of unbelievable. Of course, they have been forced into this
tough schedule. I'm sure it was difficult to schedule Michigan teams because they are projected to be pretty good this year. They also had to agree to
travel to those Ohio powers. None of those schools would agree to play at Inkster, or even at a better Michigan neutral site.
Most of the conversation has been about the difficulty of playing these Ohio powers, and the difficulty of playing so many out-of-state road games. I wonder about the expense of so many road trips. Inkster is not the richest school district and it is very costly to take these trips. Some major Ohio schools will provide financial support for a top program to travel to their site. I don't know if St. Eds, Iggy and Stuebenville are in that category. This will be a real test for Gardner and team. It's still unclear how many transfers have been added to the Inkster squad. They will need quite a few to be competitive in that tough schedule. Unless we discover a large number of quality transfers, I can't see Inkster making the playoffs this year. It's possible they have some winable games already scheduled, but not announced. In any event, Coach Carter needs to be congratulated for putting together this demanding schedule. It takes a special team to withstand the rigors of out-of-state travel. When Brother Rice traveled to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in consecutive weeks to play Penn Hills and Moeller, they were pretty banged up by the time they returned home to play consecutive games against CC and OLSM. They managed to get by CC, but OLSM upset them. If Inkster can get into the playoffs with this schedule, they will be a force in the playoffs, regardless of which division they will be in. |

Inkster Week Three Game | #73 | ||
|
Based on the open dates in published schedules to date, there appears to be a natural game for Inkster in Week 3. Orchard Lake St. Mary's is showing an
open date for Week 3, as is Inkster. Why don't these teams play? Is it a problem with Porritt and Carter? Some other reason? I think everyone would
like to see a match-up between Gardner and Bolden.

Prepseer,the teams that come in from out of state to play Steubenville Big Red travel the day before the game and stay at the Holiday Inn or the Hampton
Inn.They feed them and get to do their walk thru at the stadium, which is about 1 mile or less away.

I would have to think that Inkster is getting some type of compensation from the Ohio teams to be making all these trips ...
It's not like the Inkster athletic department has money to burn.
