just came across that various sources within the Lions organization as well as Curry's agent have verified that the two sides have agreed upon terms of a
contract. However, the sources with the lions added that they have placed an offer on the table for Stafford, but will not budge on it. They said that they are
giving Stanford until Friday to agree with the terms of the contract, otherwise they are going with Curry and possibly a LB or CB with their second pick.

I tivo my Path to the Draft shows in the early morning hours so I can skip the commercials. This week it has been one hour. I form my own opinions based
on what they say besides the research. Sanchez was my #1 QB coming out before the combine even. In previous years I have switched my first round choices a
tad based on the show or what I've read online. You get to know which people are in the ballpark and which one's aren't.

Mr NCAA wrote: I'll admit I bought into Mike Williams .... it was kinda funny actually. During Charles Rogers' final year at Michigan State I was talking to a friend of mine and I mentioned how great it would be if the Lions could draft Charles Rogers in the draft that year and then turn around and take Mike Williams the next season .... I was sure they Lions offense would be unstoppable with Joey having Chuck and BMW to throw to.... What are the chances both would be huge busts? WOW, how wrong was I? Mike Williams in his one year at USC was one of the most dominant players at the position that I have seen in terms of size, speed, strength, etc.. .(until Calvin Johnson came around) While I didn't agree that Mike Williams was the #1 overall player in the draft like Kiper .... I thought it was a steal where they got him.

I just think that honestly the Lions should forget the qb get the defense and the O line going in the right direction still suck bad enough during the upcoming
season to still have a first or second pick next year and they take (Bradford,Mccoy or Tebow) I just think the qb class next year is alot better than this
year.

Personally no one hits 100% of the draft choices, just like picking teams to win.

The funny thing is that it seems likes everyone in Detroit (Michigan) knows that they need to focus on building the D and OL, and the rest will come together
except for the few people that actually matter!
It's so obvious that's the direction they HAVE to go to have success ... but it's also painfully obvious that they will always go the other way.

Lions Draft | #27 | ||
|
It's a tough call since the Lions have so many needs. Even though I don't particularly like Matthew Stafford, I think you have to pick him. QB is the
most important position to build a team around and it has been a weakness for the Lions for 50 years. Unfortunately, it's an off year for QBs. Stafford
is the best of the lot and I think you have to go with him and hope he develops. I don't think you can waste a number one pick on a position (LB or OL)
that's easy to fill via free agency or lower rounds. It's too bad that Sam Bradford isn't available this year. I think he is more of a sure bet.
If Stafford doesn't pan out, they can always pick Bradford next year.
One thing is for certain. There's not a QB on the current roster that you are going to build a team around. |

prepseer wrote: I think that strategy sounds better than it actually works. How many teams with nothing to work with in any area have started with the big time QB as the first step and had it work out in the past 20 years? Manning? Seems like in almost every case with the top teams they built up some other areas and addressed the QB position later on.

It's Staffford after all and it's a whopping $78 million dollar deal. This makes it that much tougher to rebuild with such a high contract. This
is why I"m not a real Lions fan anymore since no one knows what they are doing.

I guess that's that ... hopefully it works this time around ...
I'll deal with this pick as long as they really address defense in the rest of the draft.

You wont find a bigger fan of offenses that utilize the TE than me ...
BUT ... not for this team ... not in the first round!

Yes, i love when you have a TE, but look at the past SB teams, can you name their starting TE off the top of your head? I have absolutely no more hope for the
Lions. I admit that i believed that they were going to change, but they wont. These guys running the organization are Millen's guys and have learned from
Millen.

One of the best tight ends in the NFL today.
Of course I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan for many years. (since 1975) If you have a TE that can block and catch with some speed, he becomes a very dangerous weapon. (especially in the red zone) Coach Fortin |

At the moment no one is beating up on the Lions on ESPN Radio. Their scorn is directed at: Oakland Raiders Denver Broncos Cleveland Browns |

I hope the Safety from WMU works out ....
But I think they could have taken a MLB at that spot ... .and still got a pretty good Safety on day 2 .. such as David Bruton who I think would have more value in the 4th round compared to the other guy in the 2nd round.

Third Round for the Lions feels like Special Teams - looks like these two will possibly get to the field soon. DeAndre Levy Wisconsin OLB probably Def ST with an emphasis on kick blocking, and maybe a pass rusher from the LB position. Derek Williams a WR who looks to be a kick return
specialist.
It is now an official Detroit Lions Draft® I try to like what they are doing, but… They do need help everywhere, so any pick can be justified… |

Yep ...
With the picks they have and all needs they have .... one would expect the Lions to be able to get at least 4-5 guys who can potentially start/play right away on offense or defense. At this point I think they might be lucky to have drafted 2 regulars to start the 2009 season. Aside from the Qb spot .. you'd think the Lions are the Patriots or something and adding depth and specialist that they need the way they are drafting.

First player ever taken from Stillman. http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80f334c6 There are seven ILB still on the board who are graded as potential starters - as was Sammie Lee Hill - and only two ILB's have been taken as of rd 4 pick 122. Five OT's left that rate as starters or potential starters. Lions don't have another until the sixth round. Then have 4 of the next 80. Players 174-255.
