Who will be the best in the central division? Top players, recruits, etc.

To me CC and Brother Rice are the teams to beat going in .... CC should be the favorite going in but if some things come together I think Brother Rice could be
the best team in the end.
DLS and OLSM for the 3/4 spot. DC and U of D for the 5/6 spot ... if DC is actually in the league... There should be some very good teams in the Central ... but I'm just as interested to see how U of D comes along under Coach Putnam. |

This may sound crazy, but the more I see how the kids at CC are developing over the off-season, the more I think CC is going to take the Central this season. I
know this doesn't mean anything typically (based on the # of kids OLSM sends on), but CC has 6 legit D-1 kids on the team this season: Palazetti, Kinville,
Herzog, Capatina (Ivy League), Sherman, D'Augustino. I just think with this type of talent, and the type of football CC plays, I expect good things.
Anything less than a state title would be a dissapointment to everyone this season.

CC has some solid players returning ... no doubt about that ...
Of course I'm not seeing how those players listed are developing in the offseason ... based on last year I would say they looked like excellent HS players ... but I'm not sure half of them will play D1 ... possibly D2 or D3 ... not that there's anything wrong with that .... playing college ball at any level is a great accomplishment. |

Searn, I totally agree with your assessment. Most of these player are probably D2 or D3, only Palazetti has D1 potential. They are all great kids and players
who have been working very hard. I believe they will have great senior years and Team success. D'Agostino will be a junior this year.

I have detailed knowledge of the situation..... Trust me..... You will see come camp season (June-July). D'Agostino is a Junior, but he is a legit D-I guy
as well.

CC's season | #7 | ||

is going to depend a lot on how the line plays this year. They have the kids to handle the ball. We all know that. But the line play must improve quite a bit
over last year - both sides of the ball.

Regarding CC I believe they will be the front runner for the Catholic League based on experience and line play. I thought their OL looked to be arguably the best in the league and their Dl was second only to DLS. I saw CC make mistakes that I would attribute to youth, and inexperience in the poise depatrment; you would expect with such an expeirneced group those mistakes will be corrected. I am curious to see the improvemnets that these juniors make from junior year to senior, some times a players gorwth is by leaps and bounds and sometimes its by smaller increments. If diesel is right and there is tremendous growth by this years group CC could be the hands down favorite. Diesel if you have the inside scoop don't make us wait a month spill the beans. I think where Rice and OLSM may struggle a bit is in the area of line play. Over the years you have to be either dominant (or very close to) to win the Central, I also believe the teams with the best line play (not neccisarily skilled play) has won the league. This faors well for Cc but it also favors well for DLS. Subsequently DLS returns a strong nucleus from their D and should be strrong upfront on offense. They will also have playmakers in Tim Zabawa, DeAngelo Parris, and transfer Pat Harris. I beleive they will not see a drop off at QB, and wouldn't be surprised if Ladicina is an upgrade to Sinnagogga. I would not count out DLS in this preseason argument. |

ez. I must respectfully disagree when you say CC's OL was a strength last year. I think it was perhaps the weakest unit I have seen all this decade. It was
almost their undoing in the NHS game, and was a lot of their undoing in the Stevenson game. The line is still the big question mark this year.

I think it goes without saying that CC will probably be the favorite in the Central with all the players they bring back from a team that finished second in
the Central Division and CHSL runner-up. Rice is Rice - they bring back Grisan, DeClaire, Popp, Cherocci, and host of other players. Offensively, Rice is going
to be very strong and will score points. I do find it interesting that Coach Fracassa is listed on the Brother Rice football website as the offensive
coordinator. I don't know if that was the case last year, but it is interesting. I guess we should look for the bounce pass at least once next year.
I do think the two wildcard teams are DLS and OLSM, more so DLS than OLSM. We all know about Bolden at OLSM, but who can step up and fill in the void from Semmes, Woodland, and Fiorini? Earnest Thomas and a host of tight end candidates will probably step up. There were also a fair amount juniors who started on the line for OLSM last year which will help in terms of experience. DLS brings back 6 total starters from last year, but a fair amount of juniors played some sort of role on the team last year throughout the season. Offensively, DLS will have some fire power to score on the ground and in the air. As far as UDJ and DC - We'll see how Coach Putnam likes going against a veritable who's who of football coaches in the Central Division, but something tells me that he is ready for the challenge. Unfortunately, the talent isn't there yet for the Cubs to become a legitimate contender in the Central yet, but the Cubs will be well prepared for each of their opponents. As far as DC, they again have a modified Central Division schedule which should help the Falcons make the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Marty Mitchell, Nate Gendron, and Jeremy Shay will lead the way for the Falcons. |

CC Dead Period | #16 | ||

Anyone know what that week is? I understand that Dead Periods are determined by each school. CC's is when?
(I didn't want to start a new thread for this question or post it on the main board) |

BG,
The "dead period" is two weeks this year, June 29 - July 3 and July 27 - July 31. At least at CC. |

Thank you Kaycob.
Just so you guys don't think I was being lazy, I actually checked the MHSAA. It was that bit about 'most schools choose...' that made me ask the question. I was thinking about taking up an offer I received to view the new S&C regimen. What I was being lazy about was potentially driving to Novi and finding the team on hiatus. Speaking of S&C, do I note a 'trend' in the addition of new programs and coaches among other schools too? |
