Senior Posts: 224 10/22/08 8:30 PM Forum Troublemaker	and about decker, when he got there, he was telling people that his brother suggested him not to go to rice. sooooo.... i mean, yea, they always seem to have a good guy in the skill position, but a WR doesn't make a team. the good olsm teams have had good defenses. the bad ones, not so much. the good ones tend to have a good core group of kids that played together for years. the bad ones, not so much. people start looking at 40 times and vertical jumps and determine talent. i don't get it. talent is the ability to play well WITH your teammates.

Some schools fall into more than one of the three categories. I think OLSM falls into two of them. The previously made point of under-achieving keeps them from hitting the trifecta.

Senior Posts: 225 10/22/08 9:57 PM Forum Troublemaker	he does the best he can with every team he has. that's why the 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007 teams all made the state finals. the 2005 team was arguably the best team since 1999, and they could've gone far, but were upset by rice. but with prep bowl and catholic league titles along with the gridiron trophy, it's not like they underachieved. only losing one game, even though it was the one that counted the most, doesn't mean a team underachieved. the 2006 team had a couple of good athletes, but lacked the core group of players necessary to make a run. role-players are just as important in high school football as the talented guys. i honestly believe you guys give OLSM a bad rap because they offer all students financial aide and a chance at a good education. you hate the fact that people WANT to go there. it's similar to USC or even Michigan. people WANT to go there, and everyone gets jealous and pissy. i remember a few years back when CC dominated every year but when they lost, people cheered. it's the same thing. it doesn't matter. maybe you're just upset that you can't be part of the eaglet family, which is stronger than a lot of families in America. I didn't think there was any shot we would see them at Ford Field.... 2003 - big playoff disappointment 2002- was what it was. 2007 - nice season, including playoffs ... EGR was a little better. The 2005 team was likely the best team in Michigan ...without injury. The 2006 team should have been a lot better.(especially in the playoffs) 1997-2001 ... OLSM should have won State Championships in Class BB/D4 .... and easily. No disrespect to the rest of D4 or BB .. but OLSM should have been AT LEAST 3 tds better than every team in those playoffs. How they lost early playoff games to Ortonville-Brandon and Trenton was beyond ridiculous.... probably 2 of the biggest playoff upsets since I've been following MHSAA football. I'll cut OLSM some slack a few years in a very tough D2. .,................................... I think the difference between CC or Brother Rice runs of domination in the past ....... The local public schools may have been against them .... but OLSM is the only case of the CHSL turning against one of their own that I know of.... And CC/Rice have been even more successful at times than OLSM is now.... DeLaSalle is becoming strong .. and I don't see the CHSL fans turning against them. I believe OLSM's situation is very unique. As a CC fan first and foremost, I accept the reality of DeLaSalle's recent emergence as a power. It's a challenge for CC, and it's good for the CHSL Central. I pull for DeLaSalle in their out of conference games, and when they play OLSM. Same with Rice, UofD, and DDC. It's funny how when the Catholic school closings occurred a few years ago, there was really a microscope placed on OLSM's athletic gains compared to others' (that year, and since). This was specifically true with Verska'a public comments adding fuel to the fire (remember quack! quack!). In hindsight, which program has made better strides since? Can't argue with that ... but good coaches get as much out of their players as talent dictates ... top notch coaches tend get more out of their teams than talent dictates ... I can't honestly say that I believe GP gets even close to everything out of the talent he's "dealt" He's had more pure talent to work with the past 5 seasons than probably 95% of the other 600 teams in Michigan have had to work with in their school's football history. I've never met him ... I'm sure he's a great guy, and he knows how to manage a hs sports program ... but in a few of the sports he personally coaches (football and hoops) ... It's hard for anyone to say he has not underachieved big time.

But I have seen OLSM play every season since 1994 ... and the teams that won championships from 1997-2001 in OLSM's classification ... Based on talent, and what I saw them do against CHSL opponents .... I honestly expected OLSM to be at least 1-2tds better than anyone class BB or D4 could have put up against them in those seasons. ... to me those were gigantic upsets.

I agree about 2004 ... I give them credit ... one of the few OLSM teams that I thought exceeded legit expectations. OLSM may or may not have been built to win the CHSL in 2006 ... but man for man they were certainly much better than the team that knocked them out of the state playoffs.

He was brutal his first few years at UM, but improved last year. Still he has 7 career picks. I guess the Bengals saw something. The kid ended up one of the league's Purgatories.

He was awful and I'm glad he's gone. It is ironoic how someone can make so much money as a young kind when he was so bad at the college level. I can't believe he will make it to the pension level. He'll be another Drew Henson. For his sake, I hope he has a big guarantee in his contract.

Sophomore Posts: 28 06/23/09 9:13 PM	I agree with Searn Starter at U of M for multiple years. Great Athlete did not quite measure up to the Sheer Athlete ability. Great Athlete does not always equate to great Football Player. To be fair his Senior Year the year you should be ready to really deliver the U of M defensive Scheme was terrible did not take advantage of the skills the team had. Team looked timid and confused, glad for the coaching change. I expect him to get some opportunities to showcase his speed on Nickle and Dime packages early and see what comes from that.
