Grand Haven HS -0n-7 |

Caught this 7-on-7 today on the way to the beach.... About 12 - 14 teams including Gr. Haven, Muskegon, Dewitt, Holt, Middleville, Zeeland West (I think) to
name a few. Was not a tournament, per se, but each team got 4 games. Watched the Muskie - Dewitt matchup at the end which Dewitt won by 2 or 3 TD's.
Muskegon's QB is small (maybe a soph?) and looked just ok. According to a Dewitt dad, they went 4 - 0 for the day.

I was at Grand Haven also. Looks like Mid Michigan will have at least two strong contenders in Dewitt and Holt. I heard Dewitt had thrown at Macomb Dakota on
Thursday night. Tough schedule. Hard to watch them all, but I thought Grand Haven threw the ball well also. Nice day for FOOTBALL!

I was there as well "field manager" for field 7 (the one way in the back). I got to watch Holt's b squad most of the day. They have a sophomore qb on the shortish side but the kid made some nice decisions and some very nice throws. That was Zeeland East that was there Rudy, not Z west. I did'nt get to see much else except for what happened back on the field I was running. Probably one of the cooler things I saw was when the Middleville team. (Trojans) were back on my field they were running ALOT of Run and Shoot type of stuff. 5 wide, routes adjusted on the fly, and they wanted more of a 3 second count instead of 4 to promote getting the ball out faster.

BigRed...do you know much about the Muskegon group I saw? Are they mainly a running team? Passing didn't appear to be their forte. Also, hows the new coach? Also, who was the team with the winged, U of M helmets (looked small, like a JV squad)? Appreciate any info you could pass along! |

Rudy, Muskegon was doing a little bit of "tinkering" with personel at GH saturday and yes they are a veer option team so other than the normal quick
stuff like hitches and slants most of the game is working off of veer playaction. I got to sneak up and watch the end of Muskegon and Dewitt and then talked
to the coaches afterwards. They said the kids were getting bored with the 7 on 7s (I think that was their 7th one this year already) and were ready to get the
pads on and go after it. The new head coach at Muskegon is the same guy who was the O coordinator last year so not too many worries ther e. The team with the
winged helmets I am not sure on. It could have been their jv or a B squad of some sorts.

Dewitt has always been good, and especially good at 7 on 7 stuff. They were in the finals 4 straight years from 2000-2004. They are probably due for another
good playoff run.

Except that DeWhat is now in D3 which means that they will have to get by the EL train during districts and EGR in the whatever round first before heading
to Ford Field. |

thats a tough road to the finals. If they make it they should be tested.

Godwin Heights may have been the team with the winged helmets.

Dewitt is not new to D3. They were D3 state runners-up in 2002 before going back to the dome in D4 in 2003 and 2004. I believe in the years since,
they've competed in the playoffs in both D3 and D4 in various years. Also, EL will be a little down this year so not to worry, there. In D3, the 800 lb.
gorilla is, of course, EGR.
