Down in the southwest corner the place to be friday night is Watervliet. According to the papers they are expecting 10,000 people for the 100th anniversery of football between the two schools. Lots of build up for that one. If you are looking for an incredible atmosphere and some average football get down there

MHSAA Football Stats

According to this link it is 100 games. Is there a link with the won loss tied record between the two schools? I will be adding this game to my rivalry list.

This was on the St. Joseph Pallidium newspaper:

Coloma at Watervliet
7 p.m. Friday
uLast year's records: Coloma 7-3, Watervliet 4-5.
uLast year's game: Coloma won 8-6.
uWhat to expect: Officials are anticipating a crowd of up to 10,000 for the 100th anniversary of the rivalry.
Coloma has won the last nine meetings, but last year's game was much closer and Watervliet has significant experience back on its offensive and defensive fronts.

It's too bad that the newspaper can't give the overall won loss tied record in a newspaper article. Hopefully one will be given after the game. The year that the rivalry began would be a big help as well. It appears that this rivalry has played more games than the GRCC vs. GR Central rivalry game has. So it definitely belongs on my list.

MHSAA Football Stats

I am tentatively putting down 1909 as the year started. However from past experience some schools didn't play during WW1 a year or two so it could have started earlier.

That's the won loss record that I come up with on John's website, www.michigan-football.com . The asterick is used to signify that the results are from 1950 - current just like I have for the Saginaw Arthur Hill vs. Saginaw rivalry. If the newspaper doesn't do it, perhaps I'll email the Coloma AD to see if he can provide all the info that I'm seeking. This is close to 60% of the results in case someone wanted to know what the percentage of games that we have.

MHSAA Football Stats

Grand Rapids Central is closing after this year according to the Grand Rapids Press. Too bad that they can't even mention the rivalry won loss tied record or even the year that this rivalry began. So there goes a few of my rivalry games on my list due to a school closing.

There was a pullout in the herald palladium that listed every score of every single meeting between the schools, unfortunately i threw that away. According to the link that im posting below the current series is Coloma 62 Watervliet 34 and 6 Ties. Apparently tonight was the 100th anniversery of the first meeting, however it was the 102nd actual game because there were two years in which the schools met twice. Great game. Up and down the field for the most part. Both teams had big plays and stalled out in the redzone numerous times. I would really like to know the number official number of people that were at this game. One of the best atmspheres for a regular season contest that i have ever seen. Looking forward to seeing it online.

Thanks for the update especially the won loss tied record. I'm interested in any high school football rvialry that started in the late 1890's - 1920's. So if people have them state: team with the winning record first, rivalry opponent, year started, and won loss tied record,

All the ties in this series (Coloma vs. Watervliet) must have occured pre 1950.

I would like to publicly thank Coloma's Athletic Director Ken Schmaltz for mailing me the Coloma vs. Watervliet program. I will try to read it next week as I have the Clarkston vs. West Bloomfield game to go to on Thursday plus some DirecTV high school football game to watch. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are football watching days on DirecTV.
