Here's an update on the Highland Conference after 5 games are done (I can't believe that!).

1. Beal City 4-1 (2-0) - only loss is to D5/D6 Clare in week 2
2. Lake City 3-2 (2-1) - only conference loss is to BC last week - by a score of 52-0
3. McBain 3-2 (1-1) - only conference loss is to LC two weeks ago - by a score of 28-27
4. Manton 3-2 (2-1) - only conference loss is to BC two weeks ago - by a score of 48-20
5. Evart 2-3 (2-1)
6. Pine River 0-5 (0-3)
7. Marion 0-5 (0-2)

For the first time in recent memory a Highland team was unable to field a JV team - Marion. I'm told they are very low for varsity as well - about 19 kids, with only about 15 healthy enough to play. I know they and McBain had to combine their 8th graders in order for either to field an 8th grade team. I heard a rumor that they may have to look at 8-man football in the near future - I hope this is just that - rumor - I would hate to see the Highland lose a football school when McBain NMC doesn't field a football team either (although they never have as far as I am aware).
