Although probably not an upset, I'm surprised by the margin of victory.

Mr.NCAA.....look back at the preseason post I made about some Division 8 schools....I mentioned this would happen....
THis game score is a bit surprising maybe (albeit turnovers made the final score worse than it should have been), but LLH is the real deal. Folks in lower Michigan have not seen the Lakes downstate the last 8 or 9 years simply because Forest Park has been fortunate to win in the district play every year. LLH has been a top notch Class D program for years, only to run into Forest Park every year in the playoffs. Well, it's the Lakes year.. Yet, don't be surprised if Forest Park does win if they do play in round 2 of the playoffs. There are 3 top notch teams in District 1 of Region 1 of Division 8. (don't forget about North Dickinson, whose only lose this year was to Forest Park). The GWC has 4 teams in the playoffs again. Hurley (WI) also beat Forest Park this year, and they finished 8-1, losing only to LLH. Hurley is a top seed in the WIAA playoffs. All fans and coaches of Division 8 will be looking to see who will come out of that District. Who ever wins that district (between Lake Linden-Hubbell, Forest Park or North Dickinson) will be the favorite to play Muskegon Catholic Central in the State title game this year. Forest Park has been on an incredible, historic run in the football playoffs (5 straight finals, are you kidding me!!!....that is incredible). But, Lake Linden-Hubbell could have been playing in at least 2 if not 3 of the finals the last 5 years had they not lost to Forest Park in the district play.

MCC will win the Division 4.... I mean Division 8 title again this year. Their playoff games are boring compared to the regular season. Reminds me of dePorres
playing Class A teams in the regular season and then beating the snot out of all the little Class D schools come playoff time. I wish MCC would opt up a Class,
but they are what they are. Just unlikely to see to small town teams going at it any time soon in the small Divisions. Seems to be dominated by Private City
Schools. The only hope the small towns had was the Private schools missed the playoffs.

Good stuff to know while following the playoffs.
Like BigRed89, I am a fan of the UP. In fact, going there soon. |

upfootball wrote:Not so sure about that this year. MCC is nowhere near as strong as they have been in the last few recent years. As far as the opt up thing goes I could see it almost if the school was not hurting on enrollment AND hurting for money as they are right now. They really are a div 8 school wether people want to believe that or not. <a href="http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/?action=view¤t=singlewing.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/singlewing.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

LL-H has what FP is missing this year....Big bodies up front. FP has speed and quickness, but can't get off the blocks to utilize it. The score of this
game was deceiving, as FP couldn't recover LL-H's fumbles, nor their own. LL-H was able to recover whatever hit the ground, including their opening
kickoff fumble. FP may have been able to take advantage of LL-H and make them play from behind early had they recovered that one. The turnovers margin fell
LL-H's way. Yet, even if the were no turnovers, LL-H would have wore FP down and won a close game, again, because of the dominance at the line of
scrimmage.
A rematch should be interesting. I think FP has a few cards up their sleeves. Hopefully FP doesn't let this loss get into their heads and self destruct against North Dickinson. Normally the opposite is true. ND should be worried. |

Agree with BR89 here.
MCC is not the same team they were last year. They are probably equal in size to most D8 teams. They have like 5 or 6 Sophomores starting as well. But having said that....all's you have to do is take a look at what they did to D8 Frankfort during the regular season.... and wonder who will step up and compete with them this year? Climax? LLH? Beal? Fulton? Hopefully there are some competitve games! |

BIGREDS89 wrote:I will take your word for it that they are not as good as the last couple of years. Maybe they will only win by two or three scores this year. Ok even if they dont win it... There is no way to call them the same as kind of school as a Forest Park or a Climax-Scotts for that matter. Those schools do not draw from an area the size of Muskegon. It is different. Anyone has to admit that. Who will be favored over MCC this year in the playoffs? This week they play number one rated Climax-Scotts, but who is really favored in this one? |

Upfootball is right in that it will be an interesting game this week. After I came up with that undefeated teams at home stat for week 1 though, I would have
to double check to see how high on the list I would put MCC game on the list - my secondary list was done by divisions though.

upfootball wrote: I'm sorry but I think the "size of area to draw from" argument just does not hold water when it comes to MCC. There is so much good football in Muskegon county MCC does hot have that much pull around here. They do manage to get a few kids from Mona Shores that want to play for a good football tradition but other than that they are not pulling any other kids from anywhere else really. <a href="http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/?action=view¤t=singlewing.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/singlewing.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

Exactly, BR.
When you have 3 other schools winning a state championship and a fourth in the semi's...it's really hard picking. They're not gonna steal kids away from Muskegon, OV, Oakridge, Montague, Ravenna, or even Muskegon Heights for that matter. They might be in a larger city but there are too many other good teams in the area for this argument to work. |

Especially when you can go to any of the other good schools for free. I would say MCC needs to hold onto coach Holmes for as long as they can. I think things
could get real bad real quick without him.

What MCC is doing this year is more impressive than last year even in my view. They are winning with 6 Sophomores starting.
I've been wondering lately if Beal City might push MCC just as hard as Climax did. And heck we dont know about Colon yet.... You could make the argument that a second string or third string player from Muskegon could maybe start at MCC. Especially if they had size. And maybe thats why a kid would transfer. But how many of those kids would be willing to abandon everything they know to do that? Kids leaving from Shores to play at Catholic is the most likely scenario. And even those kids would have to be really dedicated to the sport to make that change. Thats hard for a teenager to do. A kid a while back left Whitehall his Sr year to play at MCC. He said it was because he wanted to win a Championship. He did. But I think this is rare and doesnt happen near as much as people think. Was he called (recruited) by MCC. Let me just say I highly doubt it. |
