Here are some of preliminary first round lower seeded teams winning:
Muskegon, Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, Caledonia, BBR, Inkster, Chelsea, OLSM, Highland Park, Flint Powers, Blissfield, and Mio. Those are my basic instinct ones without any research. For some strange reason I left off Warren DeLaSalle off my initial list - probably due to abbreviating the school on my sheet.

I don't see Mio beating Frankfort. An upset I do see happening, however, is St. Ignace over Gaylord St. Mary's. St. Ignace is much better with
Mortenson at QB (missed most of the Newberry game and the game after that I believe) and GSM is coming off a horrible 42-0 loss against JoBurg-Lewiston.

After a quick perusal, I take odds with Markowski thinking EK and Rockford will be a game. Rockford doesn't get caught napping twice. Just hunch.
EDIT: I also take exception to his stating that olsm "almost beat CC" yesterday. I was there. It was a very tough, and hard fought contest. But olsm's only scoring chance came on the Special Team's return to the CC 13 near the end of the game, and they were picked on 4rth down. Playing tough and almost winning are two distinctly different things. i.e. MSU almost won their game...

I forgot I like Ike as well over the Chiefs (Pontiac was a chief).
I think that the Northwest Conference seemed down to me this year. That was going to be one of my few non categorized upsets for round one. I'll think about it though. I was watching the Spartans and the Gators while making the playoff updates. That's why D6 ended at 196 instead of 192 on my sheet. D5 ended at 160. Somehow I got too caught up in the NCAA games when bringing up my division 6 breakpoint from down below.

Here's another comment to take issue with: "Muskegon, the defending champion, comes out of the tough OK Red Division and will be the best team Kenowa
Hills has faced."
He must have forgotten that Kenowa has played EGR. I'm not here to argue with Muskegon people, but even Markowski has EGR ranked ahead of Muskegon and doesn't have Muskegon even getting out of the district against Lowell. I'm guessing that in his rush to get this out he just forgot that Kenowa and EGR played in wk 2. No matter, appreciate his insights. I should add that I think Muskegon will more than make it out of districts.....

I like DCC in division 1 and have all year. Why get off the bandwagon now? In D8 I like Muskegon Catholic Central. They will become the second 5 - 4 team to
win a state title. Division 2 appears to be the most wide open division so before my prediction I want to go more in depth. I did agree with Tom on Ravenna
going farther than their seeding. One of my darkhorses is Hudson since they have way more CPA points than anyone else in the division.

MrNCAA, stay with the Shamrocks. Keep giving me reasons that they will/can/should win.
And EastGuru, you can't believe that TM actually did the research on their schedule beforehand? Not knocking him. Just sayin' |

First of all, I appreciated that Tom produced his article so quickly. So I can forgive any oversight errors like the schedule error since it was a rush job.
The main theme of the article was to pick his champs and his other info. I didn't see Mick McCabe produce one that fast. I will have to double check to
see if SOS produced one yet.
I forgot to post just for TNTDyno that I like JLC in D5.

Besides our re-match with West Catholic… I'll be very interested in seeing who wins the Hastings vs Byron Center match (with the winner getting EGR). Hastings is a power wing-t team and Byron Center has a group of former head coaches guiding them. Winner may give EGR a tough game. (Unless one team runs away with the rd 1 game, I don't see an upset over EGR.) EGR will be facing a Forest Hills Eastern team on a 4 game losing streak. GR CC just beat them 37-14 last Friday. The Hawks seem to be in disarray. Could be worst match-up in the tourney.
Questions encouraged. Will respond to 'what ifs'
about particular teams.

Looking forward to Byron Center winning their match-up as I'd like to see some new teams at the home field. No offense to Hastings, but "been there, done that". Regarding FHE, yeah, that would be the upset of the decade if they came into East and won (this season). |

EGR not the greatest lock??
And while agree with TM that West Catholic is the team to beat, I couldn't disagree more that the only team that can give them a game is Marine City. I think MC is overrated, and also that WC will probably run into a couple of tough games just to get out of their district.

MrObvious2 wrote:Marine City is a good team, but I agree that nobody on their schedule warrants handing them a trip to Ford Field until they prove they can beat non-MAC teams. The last few weeks, the Mariners have come out very flat, and didn't even show up to play the first halves of games. If they can play 4 quarters like they played in the second halves of those games, they will be tough...but they can't take off the first two frames against real playoff teams and expect to win. I will be happy with a semi-final appearance for Marine City. A trip to Ford Field would be GREAT. A second state title in 3 years would be amazing. This is a small town public school that doesn't draw athletes from schools of choice. Their consistency in winning district titles is impressive, given their demographics. Multiple trips to Ford Field within a 5 year span is asking a lot of such a program. I'm not saying they can't do it, but I agree that they have a lot to prove yet in 2009. |

Could be worst match-up in the tourney.I'd have to put forth Concord vs. Hudson as the worst match up of the playoffs. Hudson will likely be up by 49 or 56 at the half. This one has ugly written all over it. And Mr. NCAA, thanks for liking JLC in D5, but I think they have a pretty tough road and are far from a lock. "The common man revels in HAVING WON. That's another good mismatch to point out, Grambus. Seems like every year there are a dozen or so first round blowouts of epic proportions.
