The CL's Big 4...... |
Lead | ||
|
look pretty solid to make long runs.... I think that BBR has the toughest challenge next week with their playoff rival- Rochester Adams...... even though
Melvindale is undefeated and has some tremendous athletes- DC handled them between the tackles- it was their "bounce" factor and "broken"
plays that beat them defensively- perimieter stuff- plays that I believe OLSM will handle because they have the same speed that Melvindale has... I think that
Stevenson will struggle to score against CC.... I think the same with DLS against- I think- GP North? (although I haven't seen North this season so
that's an educated guess)
It preliminary appears that the CL's top 4 as a whole are a little better than last season as a group |

Here's what I predict for next week:
CC/LSHS: Similar to CC/LFHS this past week. Close game for a little while, but CC's dominance at LOS and pounding backs take control as CC defense holds AW to a rather average game. CC 35 LSHS 10 BBR/Adams. Rice gets running game going enough to keep Adams offense off the field. But Adams defense stiffens when necessary. Game goes to OT with Rice winning 17-10. DLS/GPN: DLS rolls to a 38-7 win. OLSM/Melvindale: Lots of skill players on the field. Difference will be OLSM's defense. Peaking at the right time. OLSM 20 Mel 10. Yes, I'm a CHSL slappy. Adams might just beat Rice, and Mel might just beat OLSM. But CC and DLS are strong bets. |

Brice certainly has the right motivation against a familiar foe. Dunno if they can get it done w/o much of a running game. And the slappies of the old Mega,
now DRL have me bought in that Mel might be something special. As such I have concern for the eaglet's chances.
I think CC wins, but it will be closer than 3-4 scores. AW is a game breaker and will score points for Stevenson. Like Rice, CC is a team with the proper motivation so they should play inspired FB. Aside. Any confirmation on the game time for CC? I can't find a link to verify, but I did see that the CC MC has an event between 10 and 3 so maybe that Saturday 7 PM suggestion has merit. Damnnnnn |

The game is Saturday @ 7pm. I can't wait for next week! I am going to go check out Melvindale vs. OLSM, and of course watch my boys take out last years
playoff frustrations on Liv. St.

Melvindale... | #4 | ||
|
again, anything can happen but I'd be suprised if OLSM doesn't beat Melvindale by 2 scores.... I was impressed with their talent- not their team.....
still, they are 10-0 and there's something to be said for that although Fordson was 9-0 and Edsel was 8-1
I will equally be suprised if CC doesn't win by 3TD's....... I don't see Stevenson's OL being able to handle CC's front 7 Again, it will all play itself out but the top 4, IMO, this season in the CL are better than last season |

Diesel, Where are you getting your confirmed info on the gametime for CC? I lookded not long ago and it was not on the MHSAA nor the CC websites.
Coach Tom D, I sure as heck hope you are right. *ahh* I can hear the chants of, "They recruit" now. btw. Sorry that it did not work out this year for your guys. That was a nice team. Aggressive. Chippy. Inspired. A nice team. You get one more go next year? |

Yep, it's Saturday at 7:00 pm. There is a Women's Expo or something like that so parking would be a problem if the game was earlier.

Foggy,
How are the dinged up boys doing - Landry / Jakubik? |

The CC game.... | #10 | ||
|
is 7 PM on Saturday........ I'll be there if the weather is OK... I on't see Stevenson being able to do much on "O"...... DC played tough
against Melvindale but too much speed/too many athletes.... 1 TD was a botched snap that the kid took 60+ yds for a TD and 1 TD was a reverse pass....
Melvindale had trouble running between the tackles... I don't expect OLSM to have much trouble but that's why they play
Yes, 1 more year with my oldest and I have another starting in the Fall of 2010.... different type of kid- he's a pretty good skill kid... he might have a chance to play QB or a skill position there in a year or 2- we'll see.... depends on what he does in the weight room |

I believe his role will be limited this week, probably just as a receiver. Punt and Kick-off returns are doubtful and Safety is probably not in the cards this
week either but the guys replacing him are doing a fine job. The coaches will work him in slowly to see how he feels and the strength of his knee.

The CHSL Big Four are all still alive.
Dare I say it, I can see all of them winning next week as well? CHL Central matchups next week are: CC- Canton BBR - Midland DLS - Southfield OLSM - Crockett |
||||
|
|
||||
coachtomd |
They all.... | #15 | ||
|
could advance to the semi's....... CC/Canton should be one of CC's tougher tests...... Canton is a team that's bult much the same as CC and in the
same mind set- pound the ball/play as physical as possible/ control clock therefore control tempo..... all of that said, I have a hard time thinking that
Canton can score 3 times- which is what I think that it will take to beat CC..... Canton and CC might match up offensively but CC is better on
"D"...... again, it wasn't much of a game last night but Stevenson did have one opportunity... down 14-0, Stevenson put together a nice drive and
had 4th and about 4 from about CC's 25...... kind of suprised that AW was kept in to block..... maybe the best player on the field?????.... I'm sorry,
that kid needs to touch the ball 75% of the time.... in addition, he was a tremendous player defensively- why didn't he play any "D"?... does
anyone know- was he/is he hurt?
I've seen Midland and they are solid....... BR seems to be playing better and better and the CL schedule has prepared them well DLS is relying on a frosh QB- he's very good but still a frosh... however, they should get by Southfield as DLS plays good "D" and shouldn't have to score much OLSM needs to play better.. they looked very sloppy- penalties/turnovers/etc..... I don't know who looked more undisciplined- OLSM or Melvindale..... of the 4 teams- OLSM is right up there talent wise with CC but doesn't play together nearly as well....... OLSM beat Melvindale on talent..... they should get by Crockett because they do play solid "D"...... #8- the Pedula kid- is lights out- just a very good football player- very impressed with that kid- he's asked to do a lot for OLSM |

Next Week | #17 | ||

I'd say the CHSL looks pretty solid in next week's games.
Right now, here's how I see the outcomes: CC 21 Canton 7 Brother Rice 24 Midland 14 DeLaSalle 21 Southfield 8 Orchard Lake St. Mary's 31 Detroit Crockett 15 For a year when the CHSL Central was supposedly down, it's the best opportunity for a Div. 1-2-3 sweep than I've seen in a long time. |

As I thought..... | #18 | ||
|
after watching the first few weeks-I thought that the Central was better this season but one doesn't know until the playoffs start
I don't know if OLSM is good enough in 3 to beat EGR... they have enough talent I think it will be tough for anyone to beat CC in 1- they play too good on "D" I think both BR and DLS are beatable but 2 seems to be a little down this season....... if it comes down to a scoring match- Inkster will be tough After all is said and done, the "Big 4"are still alive and well going into the state quarterfinals |

Yes.... | #19 | ||

I found that out earlier...... just a very good football player.... dynamite blocking TE on "O" as well... he caught a TD pass on Friday night......
there's lots of former CYO kids making good contributions.... kind of validates all of the hard work

I gotta say, im thoroughly impressed with the big 4....Here are my picks and a little thought after..
CC 21 Canton 17 - Canton's runningbacks are superior to CC's...CC's defense is superior to Canton's....Will be a great game to watch... Brother Rice 31 Midland 14 - For some reason, I dont see this game being close DeLaSalle 21 Southfield 19 - I honestly believe this will be the one opportunity for a Catholic league team to lose Orchard Lake St. Mary's 38 Detroit Crockett 6 - Blow out city... |
