and I think that their secondary is good- as a "defensive" guy when that "front 7" doesn't have to involve the safeties for run support
and the DL can get pressure on the QB without having to involve have their secondary- they don't have to play much cover 1, that's quite a luxury- they
can sit back and play a pretty vanilla Cover 2 and not have to worry about much other than the passing game. now, don't get me wrong- they are good and
close quickly but without that front 7- they would be exposed to a lot more than what they currently are exposed to

"Also, on that point, CC has not had to face a team that has a good passing game..The best passing game they have faced is Bro.Rice, who is very
average... "
Tommy, BBR might be average, but in contrast that might well mean that Canton's passing game is less than average. CHS passing isn't likely to be a factor on Saturday. And, is/was BBR's passing average because of CC's pressure? I have to say, I think CC's secondary does not get as much credit as they deserve. I suppose I should quantify that, and I don't have the stats. But I have seen a number of picks by them this year. And I haven't seen a team yet that has had a significant passing game against CC during the entire season. |

BiasedGuy wrote: I am not a detailed X's and O's guy like some other knowledgeable folks in the thread, but here's my 2 cents. I've seen CC play a few times this year too. I'd say they don't necessarily have "shut down corners" that in a man to man situation would negate a great QB/WR combo. As coachtomd says, they get away with playing a rather vanilla Cover 2 due to strong pressure they get from their d-line and outstanding linebacker play. The CC DB's however do a great job of keeping play in front of them, and reacting. Very responsible, very disciplined, never out of position and very quick to the ball (in the air, or on the ground). If anyone is to have success throwing the ball against CC, they will first have to establish a running game by getting the upper hand on CC's D-line and linebackers. This might in turn pull the safeties in for run support, and put more man coverage responsibility on the corners. However, achieving that, may be a tall order. Conversely, if CC continues to get D-line pressure and strong linebacker play (disrupt the passing game, and stop the run), they'll be tough to beat. |

great discussion...... would love to see a CC/SHS final for lots of reasons- different styles.. long time very successful head coaches.... the "public vs.
private" thing..... and the Fracassa kid played against lots of these kids thru the CYO and they are all grown up now!!!!- some fun stuff!!!.... and
speaking of styles- CC's grind it out- keep away "O" vs. the quick strike high flying "O" of SHS
CC can be thrown on.... DC had some intermediate success and so did BR.... you have to attack the middle of the field on CC- that's where they are a little more vulnerable but not many people do.... however, I have a hard time believing that you can win a game like this without any ground game As far as SHS- from what I've seen- Fracassa is good at extending plays... CC's front has to get pressure and stay in their lanes- which they're very disciplined at Now, both teams have some unfinished business first- CC with Canton and the westside of the state which has been dominant the last couple of season and SHS gets a VERY good Clarkston team who has flown under the radar... they are very athletic and have good size and speed This game, IMO, comes down to CC's DL vs. SHS OL Might be one of the best- most interesting D1 match ups in a long time..... D1 is very good this season after a couple of seasons where D2 arguably was the better division |

TOMMYZ wrote:In my opinion, a great defense would know how to at least line up and know who to cover! I understand that Southeastern did lose their best DB in the first quarter, but still it was a rather lackluster defensive performance on Southeastern's part and led to Fracassa's huge numbers last night. In regards to Stevenson, they shot themselves in the foot way too many times in regards to turnovers and dropped passes. Also, I think the lack of a real threat in the running game is going to hurt Stevenson against Clarkston. |
