It wasn't on Sports Time Ohio, but Cincinnati Elder lost to an old BBR foe in Hilliard Davidson. They get to play Cleveland Glenville (first state championship appearance) since the Tarblooders got to play the paper Tigers from Massillon.

For those that thought that the Inkster win over Steubenville was so good, I've got some news for you. Steubenville got waxed by Youngstown Cardinal Mooney
45- 7 in an Ohio semifinal game that YCM only had to pass once since the running game was going so well.

I don't think Steubenville had to win a title for a it to be a good win.... sure it could have been a bigger win if they did ... but still a very nice W.

In an unrelated D1 note, I still can't believe how Moeller's season ended.

Moeller got waxed by Middletown in the quarterfinals based on the link. I'm not sure what the person was implying in the above post, but when teams lose by
that much it would take a ton of controversial calls to go one way to detract from the W.

I still consider Inkster's win at Steubenville impressive. Steubenville was riding a 60+ home winning streak I believe, so stopping that alone was pretty
darn good. Losing big to Cardinal Mooney is no shame, either, they are a powerhouse themselves.

I find the above thread to be utterly stupid as well since you probably didn't watch the Ohio playoff game. Steubenville didn't even look as good as
Clarkston did last year in 2008 and we know how bad people considered our team.

Hi, I haven't been on here in a while, but I'd like to address a few comments.
Inkster's win was indeed impressive..for them to come all the way down and win in Death Valley is a feat in itself. Big Red doesn't lose at home very often. The key turning point of the game was when our QB, Dwight Macon (headed to CMU), was knocked out for the entire 3rd quarter. Inkster took advantage of that and took the lead. Big Red came back in the 4th, but to the Vikings' credit, they scored on a long pass play with under a minute to go. They had the best offense we faced all year, and the best QB that I've seen us play in my 40 years of watching Big Red Football. As for the semi final vs Mooney, well as mentioned Mooney is a football factory. Big Red beat them last year in the playoffs, but this year we had serious trouble stopping their tailback Braylon Heard, who is going to Nebraska. We also had numerous injuries, but that's not an excuse. We are a small school and not very deep at some positons, so when you replace key players, there is a big dropoff. But we return most of the team, so we will take another shot at Mooney next year. I also heard that we are trying to get Inkster back for the opener. But reading on the other thread about their coach is leaving, who knows if it will happen. |

Thanks, manowar, good insights.
And if you somehow get Inkster to return, they will be a shadow of their previous team. Might not be the challenge the Big Red would be hoping to have. "The common man revels in HAVING WON. The champion finds his satisfaction in WINNING." - F.H. Yost
