With the way Notre Dame finished the season it pretty much doomed Charlie. Will Charlie go to the TV booth for a couple years and let the Irish pay him for a
while or will he get right back to the NFL as an offensive coordinator?
Lou Holtz doomed Charlie by predicting the Irish to be in the National Championship game this season. It's almost like Holtz wanted to raise the bar to an impossible feat to accomplish. Any bets on the new Irish coach? I really havent a clue as to who they are going to go after. Maybe Dantonio from MSU? Just throwing names out there. I dont know if Dantonio would leave or if the Irish would be interested. Anyone else have any names in mind? |

If I was Chucky W I would go to the booth and let ND pay me for sure. Dantonio to replace him ummmmmmm no the hot name that will go is Brian Kelly. <a href="http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/?action=view¤t=singlewing.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/marinercoachkk/singlewing.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

If I were an NFL team I would hire Weis as an OC in a second ...
The names out there are Bob Stoops, Brian Kelly, Urban Meyer, Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, Gary Patterson, Pat Fitzgerald, Kirk Ferentz, and Randy Edsall ... No idea how many are realistic ..... but hopefully they don't have to go TOO deep into their wish list before finding a coach. As a fan I'd like to see a defensive minded coach this time around. |

MSU has misfired on their last TWO coach hirings and they misfired on two coaches that both were interested and wanted the job. It would only be fitting if one
of those misfirings ended up at a major rival to stick it to them yearly. Of the names Searn mentioned I think Kelly makes the most sense.

Is this enough to keep Kelly out of South Bend? Some would argue that he tried to justify perjury in a homicide investigation.
I'm not sure his words were strong enough to have lasting impact, but some argue this has kept him from being a serious candidate elsewhere. http://www.cm-life.com/2005/09/23/kellyraceplayedroleinsilence/ |

Meyer eliminated himself a week or two ago when it became apparent that Weiss was on the way out. Stoops eliminated himself today based on headline on ESPN
website.
For Notre Dame that particular incident might be enough to disqualify Coach Kelly. I won't name them, but some high profile shady schools would be willing to overlook that particular incident though. |

Mr NCAA wrote: I don't believe a word that any coaching candidate says ... especially when they are currently employed ... ... most famously Nick Saban . ... "I'm not going to be the Alabama Coach" ... couldn't have been more than a few weeks before accepting the Bama job. Let's be honest ... how many coaches currently under contract are going to come out and say? .... "Ya, I want to leave here and take the Notre Dame job" ... Someone would have to be an idiot to show interest in another job. If they really want to make a run at Meyer ... I think they'll have to wait until after the Bowls assuming they are playing for the BCS title. I'm not sure how much Kelly's comments will impact the process at Notre Dame ... I'm over the whole politically correct thing ... If I'm the Notre Dame Athletic Director, I sit down with the current Notre Dame players (Black, White, etc, alike) and discuss the Kelly "incident"... and get their feelings on the whole thing .... and decide if he's a real candidate based on that. |

pavlov wrote:Didnt Notre Dame just have a person who is strongly in favor of abortion just speak at their graduation? I don't think that will matter one bit. I wouldn't mention it either NCAA since you are a strong supporter of that school. Oh wait... I did a poor job of reading that. You said HIGH profile.
Nevermind.
I think Stoops would be a great fit for the Irish program and the type of talent they have. The question is can Notre Dame land him?

ya ... The Obama thing was a big issue there ...
The concern from fans with Stoops is his current 37% grad rate ... While CW was at 96% in the latest 4 yr cycle. But I think that has more to do with the institution than the coach. |

It would be harder for me to become more of a fan - my family listened to the Notre Dame games on the radio in the 60's - but since Im a GVSC grad and they are now grabbing up the Lakers… I'm becoming doubly invested.
