So, opinions on this...My first thought was, WHY?...Then I read a little about him and see the connection...At the end of the article, I find myself still
saying Why?

Most teacher union contracts have a clause requiring preferential treatment on internal hiring. Not sure how strong the language is... but it's there.
Frankly, I think it is total BS and think that the best candidate should be sought out... period.
That said, they had a few internal candidates who applied. Personally, I think all of them would have made great head coaches. It was then narrowed down to 2 finalists and a selection was made. Todd Pennycuff had previous HC experience, and I understand his interviews were excellent. That's about as much as I was told. Frankly, it's rare to have an internal candidate that has HC experience. Why are you asking why? |

Novi would have been better off with Burnside as head coach in my opinion.

New Coach | #4 | ||

Come on guys, this is high school football not division 1 college football. Novi still has one year of rebuilding then has an opportunity for a good run in
2011.

hey statman any word on if the other assistants will be staying to coach under todd? I wouldnt be surprised if O hung it up or if Burnside choose to look at a
headspot elsewhere (like what tab did when he went to hartland in the early 90's). He's gotta start somewhere to get experience. Best case scenerio
for novi is if Burnside stays to help in the transition process and runs a solid defense which he is capable of ding.

Tommy... Only 3 internal candidates. Todd only one with HC experience. That didn't disqualify the others, but I'm sure it helped him quite a bit.
As far as his record as an HC... Horrid? Let's see... 5-4 at his one season at Dearborn Height Crestwood, and 2 wins in 2 years at South Lyon East (a brand new school, where first year had no seniors and second year fielded like.. what, 18 kids and lost his star QB to a transfer in year 2?). Wonlastkvc... I understand Pennycuff met with coaches yesterday and will be meeting with each individually shortly. Burnside is a stand-up guy, and I have no doubt he was at the meeting yesterday also. I really hope he's on the staff. Frankly, we have a bunch of great coaches at the school right now. |

Yea that's my hope as well. Tab was a great coach, but he needed his assistants to succeed just like I think Pennycuff will, so I really hope they all
stick around. It'll be interesting to see what direction the ofense goes in. Im not sure what Pennycuff has run in the past, but the whole novi program,
freshmen-varsity, has run primarly ace with a lot of option if I remember correctly. A change from that could either be just what the doctor ordered or a
complete disaster. Either way, he must play into Novi's usual style which is a smaller team with a lot of speed.

One Year Rebuilding | #10

Yep, Novi needs one year to rebuild program after last year. May have a good junior class (2012) coming up but they will need more expereince and size to make
a difference.

That logic makes no sense. I saw them go 4-5 in 2006 and then turn around to go 9-2 the following year. Was THAT a rebuilding year? This isn't Pro
Football.

Nothing to Build On | #12 | ||
|
Don't get mad. I am just being honest. Novi has nothing to build on and they have a new coach. Class of 2012 looks good but need the year experience and time to grow and get bigger. Every team has their ups and downs. Northville will be good this coming year with 14 return starters. As to whether they will be great is up to the coaching by changing up things defensively and offensively. Will not be great with what they have ran offensively and defensive schemes the past two years. After this next year Northville will be rebuilding.

Novi has nothing to build on? Let's see here:
-A very solid defense from last year that returns lots of starters and key backups -A good group of RBs in Brant, Sabo, Davis, ... -A class of 2012 that had a bunch of contributors of varsity last year, and went 7-1-1 at the JV level in 09 Novi was a solid QB away from winning 6-7 games last year. Novi is in the same scenario this year. However, Novi has two good QBs coming up in Ince and Haynes, and the passing game should certainly improve. Enjoy your 6-4 season mustangs, because Novi will be strong real soon. Remember, this isn't Northville, where the rebuilding process takes 10 years, culminating in a first round playoff loss. This is a proven program with proven coaches that'll make noise real soon. |

You get so worked up. You have not been heard since Northville beat Novi. I predicted Northville would beat Novi and you said Novi would easily beat
Northville and talking trash. Now that the season is over you have arisen and talking crap again. Anyway, where is Novi's offensive and defensive line. I
have looked at he Novi roster and their is not a whole lot of meat there. Position players can not perform without a line on O and D. I think Pickney
blowing Novi out at the end of the year says it all. Your rebuilding.

So, I take it, then, that you're predicting another Northville victory this year, eh?

Had Already Predicted | #16

I predicted back in Sept to playboyperry and noviwldcat that Northville would win this year and next on this website. They both talked trash until Northville did win and never saw another post from either one. Looks like Noviwildcat is back and talking crap again but will not get specific. See last post. Just wants to bash Northville geting in playoffs and getting beat first round. Just shows me he can not talk about anything Novi has. All I have to say is 14 returning starters and hopefully a new offense and defensive schemes. |

changing offensive and defensive schemes basically renders your argument of "14 returning starters" useless. What good is a returning starter who has
to completely change his style of play?

Talking trash. Changing the O nd D will be the difference between a good team or a great team. Everyone know they run a 3-5 defense and they change that up
very little. Changing the schemes can only help make the D better. Offense is the same thing, run the same non-sense game in and game out. More counters,
reverses and razzle dazzle will make that much better and keep the D honest. Everyone overplayed Northville last year. This is why you change.
From here until the season you will be talking crap, which is fine, good luck to you. I will just wait to respond after the Northville Novi game. I get a kick how you talk trash and ask questions of other teams but you were no where, no where to be found when Northville beat Novi and Pickney wiped Novi out. Go back and look at your entries at the beginning of the football year. You have no accountability, just blah ba-blah ba-blah ba-blah ba-blah! |

Back on topic of the coaches.
I am surprised at what I perceive as the suddeness of TK's departure. It just does not seem, for lack of a better term, normal. Also, I am surprised by TK's replacement. He seems an underwhelming choice. But I am truly an outsider and perhaps should not even be speculating. Still, I'd like to see the 'Cats return to prominence. |

TK left on his own accord for his own reasons... some personal I'm sure. He was HC for 10 seasons. Coaching is in his blood, so I won't be surprised to
see him coach again in the near future. Time will tell.
Your "underwhelming" comment is extremely unfair. New coach has been an HC for a total of 3 seasons. One at DH Crestwood (5-4) and 2 at South Lyon East (1-8, 1-8). Remember, this is the first 2 years of the schools existence. In year #1, no seniors. In Year #2, , then year 2, only 38 kids and loss of star player/QB from previous season. Just my 2 cents. |
