Expansion? |
Lead | ||
|
I heard the other day that the Catholic League has been in contact with schools about expansion. Namely, 3 schools from the Metro Conference (Lutheran North,
NW and Westland) all would compete at the 2 lower divisions of the Conference--North playing with ND, Foley, etc and NW and Westland playing with AAGR and
WOLL. Anyone confirm this or is this just more "talk?"

Well, if they want to expand then fine at the lower levels ... but what they really need to seek out are class B schools to put together some even divisions...
I'm sure those non-Catholic schools would be subject the old .. "you can play the CHSL schedule but can't go to the Prep Bowl rule?" |

IMO I would do away with the prep bowl and attempt to return to the "Goodfellow Game" v. the PSL
You would eliminate playing common opponents multiple times and still have the experience in Ford Field Take the division winners and play each other and match-up everyone else Top 3-4 games at Ford Field All other games played on school sites |

I agree that they need a new plan for week #9 ... bringing in a few new class B schools could help with that as well. How would you set up the PSL deal?It would be fine at the top ... but would the Class C and D CHSL schools agree to potential week 9 games (with big playoff implications) against class A PSL teams? |

There is a plan for expansion for the 2009 season, but I can't recall it offhand right now.

Well, currently there are 17 teams in the Catholic League and 20 in the PSL.
Now, if the little guys didn't want to play you could match-up the top 10 teams by division in the PSL with the Central (6), ND, Foley, Riverview Richard, & Loyola/AA. The Catholic league needs to see this as a recruitment opportunity... The PSL needs to see this as a way of building their league's reputation and preparing themselves for the playoffs Having those games you could go two games on that final Friday at Ford Field 3 Games on Saturday The other 5 games would be played on site locations Friday The Catholic League really should not worry about playing the Bigger teams--since it would mean more playoff points and a higher seed. IF that won't fly---Top 5 in the Central v. Div. 1 in the PSL One or two games Friday Rest on Saturday Austin Catholic HS could help expansion DC will be going DOWN to the Intersectional There should be talks with DCD about entering the league Powers seemed like a done deal--but things seem to be falling apart at this point Monroe CC should be "Forced" to join the league Other option for the teams not involved with the Cross-over with the PSL would be a cross-over with the Metro or "Charter" school league |

- Austin is not going to be around in 2009
- DCD will never be able to enter the CHSL because it is a non-religious school. - Monroe CC will not join the CHSL in the foreseeable future. - Looks for Powers to come into the league in 2009. |

If Powers joined it could be a nice mid level enrollment division.
Divine Child Notre Dame Prep Flint Powers and whoever is the next biggest at the time. (Richard or whoever) I might try to bring in Country Day as an "un-official" member like they did with the Central Division a few years back .... Country Day might be more likely to want to do this having guaranteed games against DC, NDP, Flint Powers, ect on a yearly basis as opposed to what they had before with Rice, OLSM, CC, etc. Or of course the other suggestions given here http://searnfootballforum.dmc13.yuku.com/topic/3556/t/CHSL-Divsion-Setup-B-C-division.html |

Perhaps now that DCD has tasted a bit of success again, they won't be 'afeared' to make an arrangement again with the CL. DCD had some pretty bad
years while they were playing in the CHSL (of course the league just MIGHT have had something to do with it)

Here is the AOD site wrt Austin Academy in Macomb. Sounds like they are a year and a half away to start.
Austin Academy and just because Boeing brought it up on the main forum here is a link to St Catherine's (next to CC) I see what you mean, Boeing, as far as some of the names behind it St Catherine |

How about this as a CHSL v. PSL set up........which I would love to see for everyone's benefit.
Using a division set up as follows. Central Div DCC Rice OLSM DeLasalle U of D AA Division DDC Powers Notre Dame AA Richard Foley Intersectional 1 Cabrini Shrine WOLL Loyola Intersectional 2 Riv. Richard Mooney Lutheran Light and Life That's 18 teams The PSL has 20 teams.....so 2 teams will need to schedule additonal games, or they could play eachother as follows. CHSL PSL Central 1 v. PSL 1-1 Central 2 v. PSL 1-2 Central 3 v. PSL 1-3 Central 4 v. PSL 2-1 Central 5 v. PSL 2-2 AA 1 v. PSL 1-4 AA 2 v. PSL 1-5 AA 3 v. PSL 2-3 AA 4 v. PSL 3-1 AA 5 v. PSL 3-2 IN1-1 v. PSL 2-4 IN1-2 v. PSL 2-5 IN 1-3 v. PSL 3-3 IN 1-4 v. PSL 3-4 IN 2-1 v. PSL 4-1 IN 2-2 v. PSL 4-2 IN 2-3 v. PSL 4-3 IN 2-4 v. PSL 4-4 PSL 3-5 v. PSL 4-5 Games near the top should favor CHSL a bit, the games near the bottom should favor PSL a bit. Overall pretty competitive Here is how it might have looked this year. Rice King St. Mary's Denby DCC Cass Tech DeLasalle Renissance U of D Ford Powers Crockett DDC Southeastern Notre Dame Mumford AA Richard Northwestern Foley Osborn Loyola Finney Cabrini Cody Shrine Central WOLL Cooley Riv Richard Southwestern Mooney Douglass Lutheran Kettering Light and Life Chadsey Pershing v. Western |

Looks like the Metro Conference is falling apart-(Harper Woods to the MAC)
The Lutheran Schools should really look to join Now--with Austin coming in 2009 and Novel coming in for Football ONLY this is the time to strike and possibly save the Catholic League I also heard the "Goodfella" Game might get legs with the PSL looking to cut costs and help their teams better prep for the playoffs |

Further, I have been told that DCD was offered--but to play in the Central ONLY--They turned it down flat--wanting to play Bishop Foley and ND Prep--and other
like sized teams.

Nouvel is coming in for football only? When did this come about? In a couple years the CHSL might actually have a decent class B division. |

I never heard about Nouvel either ... Is that a done deal?
But do agree that any one of Nouvel, Lutheran North, or DCD makes a great fit in B ... I would be less excited to see them take on Lutheran Westland, as I personally believe that program will be either eliminated or flat-out terrible in the near future. Luteran Northwest could be an intriguing option -- they wouldn't have a lot of success in the lower divisions but would be more competitive than Westland. |
