Lions: What is going on inside Matt Millen's Melon? |
Lead | ||||||
|
Well the Lions let go of Kevin Jones yesterday. They let TJ Duckett sign w/ Seattle earlier. But not to worry Lions fans. They also resigned Aveon Cason and
Tatum Bell......*shrug*
So does anyone have a clue as to wtf the Lions front office may be doing? |

I have the gut feeling that the Lions are going for a new Rookie RB. Heck they could just trade their first round for an additional pick and get Hart late in
the 1st. That is what I be looking to do. The reason I like Hart is that he is fairly durable (although he has had some injuries) but at least he plays strong
enough and can do just about anything. He is a good 1st and 2nd down back and could even play 3rd down. I also think Millen is thinking he needs a premiere
player and Hart could do that. Now would I pick hart in the 1st round. Nah I take him in the 2nd or 3rd.

I don't think it matters what's in his head, if anything ... as long as BG keeps buying up the tickets!

If they are going after a back they need to sack up and trade up and get the kid from ARkansas

ECHO what BR said. If they want a RB then anyone other than McFadden is unacceptable.

Searn, I have heard of drunk dialing, but drunk posting?
Seriously though, I will take a pic from the vantage point of my seats and then you can take a poll, among NFL fans mind you, if people would relinquish my seats. Mine are the FB equivalent to NBA courtside tickets. And, the tix are a legacy from my father. GHS/BR - The local pundits are suggesting the draft is deep w/ RBs. (you gusy probably knew that) And what are the odds that McFadden is available when the Lions draft first? That said,a re you suggesting they trade up? Why? What do they have to offer unless they mortgage future prospects. I am with the guys who get paid to talk this stuff up. The Lions have needs at OL. |

Obviously if they would have to trade up if they want McFadden. I am not suggesting they do that at all. I think he is the only RB worthy of a high first round
pick though. Mendenhall and Stewart they a both (4.5) just do not possess the speed necessary to be great IMO. If it were me I would draft the best available
lineman be it offensive or defensive.

Are you kidding me? Mendenhall doesn't have the speed to be great? The guy ran a 4.43 at 225 pounds. That's just asinine to say that.
McFadden is going to be another Reggie Bush. Terribly overrated. Bank it. and Mike Hart late in the 1st? He's a fringe first DAY pick. Grand Valley State - NATIONAL CHAMPS AGAIN! ('02 '03 '05 '06 baby!) ![]() |

GHS,
a lot of the talk show arguement centered on the fact that the OL needs are so great and the RB so deep that you draft the best OL with your first pick. The history of Millen's draft picks being what it is, there is/was not much confidence in him to obtain a bona fide prospect in the later rounds (heck even the first round) Even a great RB like DMc won't find daylight w/o the horses making holes for him. On a business note I think the Lions front office may be in tune to the fact that with the economy, with the fan disatisfaction, they may have to work to fill seats at Ford Field this year i.e Red Wings & Pistons. A such it would not surprise me that they take make a business choice to fill the seats - like a McFadden. But that does not address the longer term needs of the team. What is your take on Kenoy Kennedy being released? They give up a hitting safety who had almost 100 tackles last year, and got two years older with Brian Kelly. What IS this infatuation with the Lions and "Tampa North?" |

McFadden is not even close to being another Reggie Bush, Waaaaaaaaaay closer to another Adrian Peterson bank THAT. Mike Hart is going to go late second early 3rd round at best you can bank that also.

KleShreen wrote: Well here is the list of knocks on him from NFL.com. Seems they feel about the same way I do. Not saying he is can be good or even great but with the speed LB's possess in the NFL it is tough to get the corner that combined with the fact he is a more physical style runner anyway may hurt him in the NFL. Also not sure why but ESPN.com lists his forty time as 4.5 while NFL.com lists it at 4.45 must be Kiper had his own watch on it I guess Negatives: Lacks breakaway speed, but generates good acceleration...Coaches have worked hard to get him to reduce the arm motion used when carrying the ball, as it resulted in costly fumbles in 2006...Has loose hips, but on attempts to redirect, he can be stiff in his lateral movements...Will occasionally take false steps, but he doesn't affect his timing at the point...Has a quick sidestep, but is not really the shiftiest runner you will find...Has a feel for the cutback lanes, but lacks that extra gear and speed to turn the corner consistently at the next level (needs to be a bit more patient waiting for his linemen to pull)...Not much wiggle in his running stride, showing just adequate lateral slide while running and even when at full speed, he is more of a one-cut type (linear runner).http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/rashard-mendenhall?id=939 I also agree with BR McFadden is much more along the lines of Adrian Petterson than he is Reggie Bush. Who are these "Lie-Downs" you speak of? Last time I heard, there hasn't been a professional football franchise in Detroit since the Michigan
Panthers left in the mid-80s.

Thanks GHS. I normally don't look on Mlive, probably because I, and a bunch of others got 'food poisoning' there for awhile. I think they cleaned
the cockroach out of the kitchen. But I don't post there often at all anymore.

'Bout the only encouraging thing bout dem Lions is that the secondary might be getting better. But you can't cover all day w/o a pass rush.
Could be a loooooooooong season. As such you may wish to ask for your groceries in paper bags this summer (think about it....) |

BiasedGuy wrote: While I agree with you and understand the reasons you have abstained from the Mlive forums. The High Schools forums are the worst there is for whatever reason. Maybe it is just kids or maybe it is adults acting like kids. Whatever the reason is it will likely never change until Mlive tightens the regulations and actually moderates the forums.
However the pro sports forums and UM and Sparty forums can have some very well thought out and informed opinions. There are obviously your trolls and flamers in these forums as well but they seem to be fewer and farther between. Although there is still some fodder to sift through between relevant posts there is not nearly as much of it. Some of the best stuff I have read on Mlive is in the articles comments left by the fellow readers. There are some people out there that are very well informed in the intricacies of capology and the NFL barging agreement and they can be a great resource for those like me that do not understand it.
