Can/will the MHSAA Deny a Home Playoff Game? |
Lead | ||
|
Rumor on milve (I know...) is that Vestaburg's facilities are so bad that they won't be able to host a playoff game if the chance arises. I don't
really care how true this specific situation is, but I'd be interested to know if there is any precedence for this? Will the MHSAA deny someone a home
playoff game for poor facilities or any other reason?

I have not read about this ... what is the issue?
If it's unsafe for fans or players, .. then of course they should not be able to host. Other than that just call it home field advantage I guess? |

The MHSAA has done this several times already (denied a home field for a playoff team)
They have switched sites many times in the U.P., for example, because a field was unplayable. 1988, Forest Park vs Lake Linden-Hubbell playoff game moved from Crystal Falls to Iron Mountain (due to a foot a snow on the ground at Crystal Falls) Likewise, in 1985, Bessemer was to host Forest Park, but this game was moved to Iron River, since there was way too much snow on Bessemer's home field Last year, L'Anse was to host Lake Linden-Hubbell in round 1 playoff game. But the L'Anse field had turned into a quagmire due to tons of rain in October. No grass left on the L'Anse field, and there was standing water also. This game was moved to Baraga. I'm sure there are lots of other games in playoff history moved due to bad/unplayable field conditions. |

I didn't realize it was such an issue. I know it has happened in the past, but I've never heard of anyone getting to uptight over it. These coaches
know when their field is trashed and that doesn't help anyone, home or not.

The MHSAA should be able to move games away from an unplayable field, but they are smart and do not make the road team host.

If a school knows this far in advance-as GR Catholic had in past with no true 'home field'-they make arrangements for an alternate date/site. Maybe playing at a neighbor schools field on Saturday. That way a team still has some control over the situation. What kind of problems can't be overcome with a two month lead time?
All play-off qualifications are based on current records
only. No predictions of future games are used. The required 6 wins will be modified to reflect games played, and the number 'auto' qualifiers will be
stated in first post of the thread. Then the MHSAA rules will be applied for adding or subtracting.
Questions encouraged. Will respond to 'what ifs' about particular teams. |
