From some interesting Calculations on the East Michigan HS Football Board ....
South Lyon Capacity
Home - 2,740
Away - 317
Is there a site out there with that much of a difference that they use for the Semi's?
11. South Lyon H-2740 A-317 Total- 3057

South Lyon as a Semi-Final site and Stadium Capacity ... |

I've always had a problem with South Lyon being used and mentioned as a site for a semi-final football game ... and I've posted about it here a few
times but never looked at the numberes.. .. While the home side is great the away seating is pathetic and is in no way a "neutral site" for fans. ...

I somewhat agree with you Searn. For a visiting team's' fans and supporters for a semi-game, it really is "pathetic" and inconvenient.
However, I don't know if you can tilt it off neutral into a team advantage on the field. I can say that the facility is fantastic for the coaching staff,
the players and even the press. The field has a very good playing surface in any type of (November) weather. It's a good "neutral site" for the
actual playing of the game, but not for the fans.

I think south lyon being an early field turf field is thrown into the mix, and in all honesty a D8 game with a private school or both private fits there just
fine. I have no problem with them being an option, but only for the lower levels until seats are added.

Last few years SL has hosted D3 semi final matchups.

I also remember a few years ago they had a D1 semi at South Lyon ...
I don't disagree that it's supposed to "neutral" for the players/coaches. ... but when possible they should also try to find a stadium with adequate seating for both team's fans. There's plenty of places now with Field Turf in the general area of South Lyon that provide better seating for fans ... and is just as good for the players and coaches. .. .. I'd rather see just about any stadium in the KLAA used aside from maybe Milford. I'd rather see games at any of the following in that same general area Howell Parker Howell CC Walled Lake Western Walled Lake Northern Walled Lake Central Lakeland All of which have turf and seat 800+ on the away side.

Maybe soon SLE will be considered as alternate site to SL High. In 2007, the semi final at SL was OLSM vs. E. Lansing. To place that game in one of the other
mentioned KLAA schools would have lost its neutralness. By putting the game in Howell, that may have favored E. Lansing.
In 2006 semi's at SL, I believe it was FH Harrison vs. Fowlerville. I totally agree that equal seating should be put into site consideration but it looks as though that's the way the brackets have fallen. |

The seating there for the visitors was worse than CC's crappy home field at the time at a junior high in redford. ---- not that it was a huge drive for CC from Redford, but Walled Lake was easily closer. The MHSAA does not seem to always look at location. Here was the CC semi sites when I was in school 1995 CC vs. Sterling Heights Stevenson @ Chippewa Valley 1997 CC vs. Sterling Heights Stevenson @ Port Huron 199 CC vs. Sterling Heights Stevenson @ Port Huron Port Huron was a decent drive for both schools, but quite a bit further for CC. How about Chippewa Valley for a site though? Stevenson - 7 mile drive Catholic Central - 41 mile drive I can't see how the picked those sites if they factored in location --- and neither had turf. |

Another example of a non-neutral site:
2007: GR West Catholic vs. Menominee @ Marquette Better sites: Cheboygan, Gaylord, Petoskey, Sault Ste. Marie IMO, any game where one team has to travel over 200 miles should be held at a neutral site regardless of round. |
