Edit: After 7 weeks....upon further review

Ok. You guys are gonna think I'm nuts, but after looking at things today I have to make some changes. Hopefully over the next two weeks I can master this system and have a real good feel for who's who going into week 10.

1) GRSC
2) Hamilton
3) OV
4) Marine City
5) Kingsford
6) S. Haven

Kingsford and S. Haven are on the verge of missing the playoff's, but both have played tough schedules. I wouldnt count them out just yet. Obviously if they lose again, they wont make my list next week.

D5

1) Onsted
2) Hopkins
3) Freeland
4) Menominee
5) Allendale
6) Oakridge / JLC

I dont like putting Hopkins 2nd, as I've seen them play,... and dont feel they are deserving. BUT, that is what my numbers tell me so there they sit for now. I'd have a real hard time ranking them 2nd in D5 heading into the playoff's. But who know's maybe they can beat Allendale and create the argument.

D6

1) Iron Mountain
2) Blissfield
3) Montague
4) KZOO Christian
5) Nouvel

Iron Mountain in my mind is clear cut #1 in D6. Could Nouvel or Montague beat them? Absolutely. But not only are they 7-0 but have also played arguably the toughest schedule in D6.

Thanks Homer. It is tough as their are so many fricken teams out there. Makes it tough not just going with the "usual suspects" so to speak, and also trying not to have any West Side bias (harder for me to follow the East side teams closely). Plus trying to reward teams that have played tough schedules and not reward teams that have played cupcakes (although I realize most teams cant help it).

I was trying to rush each Saturday morning to get these done, and then I make mistakes. The next two weeks I'll try to be more careful.

I've seen both Montague and Kingsford make it into playoff's at 5-4, unranked in the AP Poll, and go to 3 to 4 rounds deep. Tough schedules payoff sometimes.

Thats where it gets tough. You can base on strength of schedule, size (class) of opponents, history, etc...

Right now what do we know about, say, Remus Chippewa Hills? They are 7-0 right? So they are a very good Football team in most people's eye's. Might even be a State Title contender. But then you look closer, and you say wait a minute. Remus hasnt played anybody. Their opponents are a combined 15 and 33 for cryin out loud. Making their strength of schedule rating a measly 32.5.

Kingsford on the other hand isnt a very good team, as they are 4-3 right? However their opponents are 31-17. Find me a D4 team with a higher strength of schedule than that. I dont think you can. Can a 4-3 team thats played a brutal schedule beat a 7-0 team that hasnt? We may find out if Kingsford and Remus meet up in the playoff's (which I hope they do). Other than that we can only guess.

Thats what I'm getting at. Trying to look deeper at the teams, and not just ranking them based on what they did last year or because they are undefeated. Which I tend to feel the AP Poll does.

I hope by week 10 to have a real good feel for who the best 5 or 6 teams are in these divisions. And then, like I said, we sit back and see what happens. Nothing but an experiment for me.
