Before 5 or 6 years ago I admired the Trenton high school hockey program as much as any sports program in Michigan. They are a public school that does not
take part in school of choice, so they only bring in kids from Trenton ---- Not only that, by choice they played up to Class A/Division 1 hockey for years and
not only competed with the bigger schools --- they won state championships -- and were among the top high school hockey programs in Michigan --- if not THE
best.
While they still do things the right way --- and are still among the top programs/teams in Michigan --- I think dropping down to Division 2 a few years back is
very weak. Trenton, while not by enrollment, is always a top 10 team in Michigan, regardless of class.
It's not that Trenton lost students and decided it was time they played in a lower class ---- their enrollment has not fluctuated by more than 100 overall
students on a given year since 1990. --- they simply did not want to compete with "the best" anymore. --- which as a fan of MHSAA hockey and the
Trenton program disappointed me. I know I would be ticked off if I were a Trenton hockey alum.
Trenton has had an amazingly consistant hockey program --- they have won 12 state titles --- with multiple titles in each decade since the 70s. And 9 of
those titles coming in the state's highest classification at the time.
In playing up to Class A Trenton won state titles most recently in 1996 and 1998, and making the finals in 1997 and 1995. --
From 1999-2002, Trenton was shut out of the MHSAA finals game. ---- Amazingly this 4 year drought was the longest in Trenton history since the start of the
MHSAA state tournament in 1975.
That is the point where Trenton hockey took a step back in my opinion dropped to Division 2. In my opinion Trenton could not accept not being in the finals
for a 5 year stretch. -- - and instead of stepping their game up --- they took the easy way out.
In 7 years in D2, Trenton has been to the finals 5 times taking home 4 state championships.

The comment on Cranbrook is plain and simple. ---- They are simply a bunch of #*$@#+%.
A private school of rich kids who's main sport is hockey that has an ice arena ON CAMPUS playing in the lowest classification after playing the best of the
best in D1 and D2 all season long, and then beating up on small upper peninsula and small town hockey teams ---- WEAK
What Cranbrook does in hockey is much worse than anything people can say about Deporres playing in the lower classes in football.
Cranbrook should be Division 1, period ---- I respect the Cranbrook hockey program for the teams they put on the ice --- but I do not respect any of their
state titles in D3/BCD. --- they would have multiple titles in D1/A --- there is not excuse for this one.
Cranbrook hockey is the poster team for those whole believe we should have separate playoffs.
As much as people dislike St. Marys (transfers, polish nationals) , once they started to develop an elite hockey program and won a state title in D3, they
chose to step up and become a D1 hockey program.
