How would you define a "recruit"on a HS team? |

With all the negative connotations given to "recruited players" for high school football, I'm curious as to where the line is drawn for a
legitimate and innocent transfer vs. a "Recruit" with all of it's derision. A guy who transfers for senior year only? junior year? sophomore,
freshman, lower? How far does he have to come from be called a "recruit". What if he went to a private school for elementary and junior high school
but the private did not offer high school? or maybe parents couold no longer afford private. what about a school of choice kid? In other words what's the
line dividing "no prob" and "I've got a prob with that".

I don't care if the player showed up in the school/district in the 1st, 9th or 12th grade.
The only ones I would call a 'recruit' is someone that was approached in some way by someone affiliated with the program(coach, player, parent, alum, etc) with the intent of getting the kid to attend the school to play ball. |

Recruit (as it pertains to student athletes): Any student who received an incentive to go to the school that was not available or would not be available to
other students

I like both of those definitions. They seem reasonable. Maybe I've read too much MLive. Sometimes it seems that any kid who isn't born and raised in the same towm from birth to senior year is labeled a "recruit". What about a kid who switches schools of his own accord to afford a better athletic situation for himself - with no incentive from alums, school officials, etc. |

EastGuRu wrote: Some might, I wouldn't. Unless someone affiliated with the school/team is actively seeking out these transfers ... I don't have an issue with it. Sometimes a school makes itself a "destination" ... and assuming they are doing things the right way, that's a big complement ... I wouldn't expect them to turn down a kid that's in good standing academically that wants to attend that school or for the coach to deny him a spot on the roster because he wasn't there since 9th grade. Now ... do I kinda roll my eyes a bit when a school starts reloading year to year with multiple 11th/12th grade transfer that happen to be D1 college prospects ... ya, a little ... sometimes you gotta wonder if everything is kosher when that starts happening on a regular basis. |

Give me some examples of recruits and/or high schools that have recruited.
