Its better than a non BCS opponent. Lets face it that is probably a an upgrade to the early season schedule.

As long as the Duke rumor proved to be false, then it was ok.
I forgot to add some comments above as well. This shoots down Angel Eyes and AD's Martin theory that UM has to play all their non conference games at home except for the ND series.

Uconn is an up and coming program .... I think Duke could be heading in that direction as well ...
UConn might not ever be much better than they are ... but they have been an 8 and 9 win team in a "BCS Conference" the past few years ... so it surely could be worse. I'll go back to complaining about their NC schedule when they add some more teams like UMass .... for now I'll just say "OK, Sounds good" Vote for 2009 MHSAA Football Conference Winners New Conference Polls to be added throughout this summer. The Blue Devils won 4 games in 2003, then reverted back to their normal win totals of 0 and 1 before. Let's face some facts, the Dukies are one of the
worst teams in the nation period including the non BCS schools. Duke is team #119 out of 120 teams in the Power Underdogs which is all about the wins. The
only team below Duke is Western Kentucky which has been at the big dog level for only 2 years.

Mr NCAA wrote: True, but I liked their coaching hire so I followed them a bit in 2008 ... and you could see a difference... making the jump back up to 4 wins. For Duke it was their best offensive effort (241 pts scored) since 1995 and their best defensive effort (281 pts given up) since 1994... and recruiting at Duke is also on the rise... I'm sure they wont be USC any time soon .... but I don't think they'll be the 0/1 win team they have been in recent years. UConn may not be a big name but they are an up-and-comer with a well-respected, relatively young coach (Randy Edsel). People may not be real excited but I
don't think its an indication of or a result of Michigan being down last year - one has nothing to do with the other. Its more a matter of timing...since
the NCAA added the 12th game, all the traditional powers who want to position themselves for a shot at the BCS title game have littered their schedules with
cupcakes (see Penn St. and Florida, for example). As a result, there were not a lot of big names available. Hell, the way things went last year, a
Michigan-UConn game could be an even matchup.

With now an even number of schools (with an odd amount it should prove to be true as well based on Hawaii's 13 games), there is no need to schedule a non
NCAA D1 team (edited = accidently put BCS since I was reading a BCS article just before typing this up) school unless Hawaii needs to do it since they are
allowed 13 games. Teams get that 13th game to play them as well so there really isn't a need in my mind. Schedules are usually done 10 years in advance
so teams can get worse than expected (Syracuse) or teams can improve (Boise State, TCU, Missouri, etc.). Personally I am left wondering why it is taking so
long to fill in that 12th game for 10 years.
About Boise State, there is a rumor that they might be leaving the WAC for the Mountain West. So that could set off some more conference changes in the future.

Yawn!
I'm afraid the UM program will not be back to its old level of excellence until both Rodriguez and Martin have departed. When I think of Uconn, I think of Yale's traditional opening game opponent. Now, we have Uconn playing in the dedication game of the new Big House. Are the Wolverines really that afraid of playing and losing to a BCS power. I predict the away game at Uconn in 2013 will never take place. Martin's successor will pay off Uconn to break the contract. 2013 should be the first year that UM will be back on the road to respectability--with RR's offense and recruits a distant memory. In the meantime, I will focus exlusively on high school football and let the college game join the Lions and the NFL in the memory bank. |

Part of the problem for the 2010 scheduling problem wise was that a ton of teams didn't have opening or the opening were in the UCan't area. In order
of a previous article I do believe that my scheduling priority order was something like this:
Oregon State Virginia UCan't Duke I forget what the other team was and will put it in there if someone recall which team it was. Viginia isn't that far ahead of UCan't in the 2009 PU chart. Oregon State I do believe was the best team being mentioned before. |

OSU Beavers would've been a higher profile, tougher opponent for U-M, no question about it. Still its not like there were a lot of options. |

Props to UConn by the way ... This means they'll be playing both UM and ND in their 2011 non-conf ... That should be some good exposure for their program

wow prepseer, you never seem to amaze me with your negativity. i happen to think coach rod and bill martin have done tremendous jobs. bill martin found coaches
for the 2 major sports that are going to make both our football and basketball programs extremely successful. just wondering though. if coach rod holds up the
national championship trophy in 3 years, how are you going to feel? angry that you are wrong (again)? or will you admit to being wrong and applaud his efforts?
and when john beilein leads michigan to its first sweet 16 in over a decade, what will u say about bill martin? i think the martin, rodriguez, beilein trifecta
will be a strong and successful group for the maize and blue for many years to come.
and quite frankly, isn't it a little soon to criticize coach rod? |

The Wolverines are now second fiddle to the Spartans in basketball. The Spartans just finished runnersup in the nation. Izzo won't let it go without a
fight since he actually knows how to recruit in state while at the same time getting an occasional out of stater.
Say what you want, but will UM fans be all that patient with a 7 - 6 won loss record or below this year with RR at the helm? I don't think so as RR is on the hot seat. So RR better produce this season or I think that he will be gone as the Lloyd Carr syndrome will come into play. Besides UM is having problems keeping OL recruits on their team. |

i dont think anyone can argue that msu is the king of basketball right now. i think over time beilein can close that gap, but i still dont think he could
overtake izzo.
but yes, 6 or 7 wins will cause unrest, but i dont see him not getting a 3rd year regardless of record. it doesnt matter though. i see at least 7 or 8 wins this year. |

I don't think it would be fair to have RR on the hotseat unless they repeated a season similar to 2008...

I hope that UM goes 5 - 7 since they will be making progress if that is the team goal.
Good luck with that one since the Wolverines would have been better off with Lloyd still.
