All major East-West matchups go West again |
Lead | ||
|
Lowell over Mumford, Rockford over Davison, EGR over OLSM, Muskegon over MLK, Hudsonville over Lake Orion, West Ottawa over Jackson. Also fairly impressive was
the OK Red going 8-0 with pretty good wins by Grand Haven over TC West, Grandville over Grand Ledge, Jenison over Wayland, and East Kentwood over Caledonia.

Are you trying to be funny? Mumford isn't a major team and neither is MLK anymore plus Jackson really hasn't been a state power almost ever. I guarantee that DCC will beat Hudsonville next week. Bet the house on it. |

Based on your east vs. west side, Ovid Elsie beat Portland once again. So the west didn't sweep like you said. Based on a Grand Rapids link, they pick up
the Portland scores before you complain.

Crap! Don't ya hate when people blurt out the ending. I was looking forward to that game (Hud-Dcc) too. Now I'll have to find some other game to watch.
Don't tell me any more!

After tonight ... I'd put Hudsonville/CC about even ... gonna be a tough pick!
Great job West! I was pulling for most of them to win (the ones I picked)... It's no secret that I don't care to root for a school that I'm not affiliated with that's 1 hour away (because it's East MI) over a school that I'm not affiliated with that's 2 hours away (because it's West) I like the programs based on what they do on the field. East vs. West .... eh It's all MHSAA football to me! |

I don't really care either Searn. I'd have posted the same thing if the East had won all those games. In fact, that would have been more impressive
given these matchups. I was impressed with the OK Red's victories though. None of those were cheap wins. On another note.....some Searn32 teams with bad
losses. Lake Orion. yes they led 19-0 but, they blew it with penalties and turnovers. not good. Livonia Stevenson. according to our twitter guy, they
couldn't do much offensively the whole evening. JLC losing to Portage Northern. this was supposed to be a pretty good returning squad for JLC. not only
lost but gave up 33. Some other smaller schools that weren't quite on the Searn32 but got surprisingly punked were Muskegon Oakridge (pretty well hammered
by Willie Snead and Musk Hts.), GRCC (by GRWC), and St. Joe who got manhandled by Marshall's running game. Smaller schools that looks good
early...........Montague and Cody Kater. Marshall and the Wimberly twins.

Sounds like Lake Orion threw that game away. I am not sure why they were passing in the situation that was described. Seems like a bad coaching move. On the
other hand...... can't really take much from the CC game. Yes, they completely dominated! There D-fense looked outstanding! It was the same old offense
though. They passed twice all game, not that they needed to. I expected to see a better team out of Cody. I am excited for Thursday night! Hudsonville vs. CC
should be a great game! Go CC!!

Kinda funny .... I've always thought Lake Orion put too much into the passing game. Ya.. I know they've had some very good qbs ... But for example
those couple years they had a bruiser like Roger Allison and a huge OL .... They greatly underused him in every game I saw.
I'm not saying be like CC or Canton all the time ... But football is still about controlling the game and clock ... But sometimes coaches outsmart themselves. How much was LO up last year against SHS when they almost got come back on last year? |

Mr. Ncaa actually as a LO fan I want Hudsonville to beat DCC. It will help our playoff pt. total. I lived on the west side the majority of my life and now
live in LO. Guess the east/west thing never mattered to me. Just enjoyed good football. I've always thought the OK Red was one the best conferences in
the state. This year, after the first weekend, I'm leaning towards the Mac Red. But it's only the first weekend and teams definitely improve as the
season progresses. All I know LO better focus for 4 quarters, not just the first 3, or West Bloomfield will hand us our 2nd lost next Thursday.

LO was up 35-7 in the 3rd quarter against SHS. I'm not the coach but w/ a 3 pt. lead and your defense has been on the field for pretty much the entire 2nd
half. There is only 3 minutes to go, and your at midfield running the ball made more sense to me. Hudsonville had 3 time outs @ the time, make them use them
and if we don't make it, we punt w/ about 2 minutes or less to go and they have the entire field to go w/ probably one or less timeouts. Only Coach knows
why he made that decision. The onside kick, completely caught LO off guard.

I live in between Ovid-Elsie and Portland. I consider both of these teams to be Mid-Michigan teams for no better logic than they are within the listening
range of Lansing TV stations and the readership range of the Lansing State Journal.

LO's coach has done a good job with their program but he has had a few bad moments in some of the biggest games he has coached in. Last night's
strategy was very questionable, against SHS last year they lost a 28 point lead and nearly the game if not for an even bigger coaching blunder by Rick Bye and
some heroics from LO's kicker.

Well the orignal poster was considering Grand Ledge, Jackson, etc. east as well when they aren't. So I threw Portland in there to make my point. Plus to
call all those games major was dumb.
EGR vs. OLSM highlights on State Champs a few minutes ago or going to have it. I'm recording on tivo so I can see the highlights at my pace. |

I said major "East-West match-ups" meaning, essentially, "east side of state" vs. "west side of state". I didn't mean that
each game was a "Major Game". It's week 1 for God's sake. How "Major" could any of them be? Semantics, assumptions, whatever. No
reason to get your panties bunched. I also referred to Grandville's win over Grand Ledge (along with Grand Haven's win over TC West) as simply
impressive OK Red wins, not examples of east-west matchups.
Looks like we need to pull out the "Elite" dictionary to get the proper definition of "major". |

What was the title of the post? At least 3 of your first 6 games weren't major games. Heck, since the split of TC into 2 schools, they've have yet to
made a semi or probably quarterfinal appearance without looking it up. I would hope that Jenison and EK would win since they are in the higher OK division.

Hang in there, EastGuru, as the season unfolds, I think it will be obvious that the power in the state (like the population) is shifting away from Metro
Detroit (what I call east) to the west side of the state.
Maybe not like last year when the west went 8 for 8 in the championship games but it would surprise me if the west still didn't prevail in most. Not saying this is permanent but I think we're in a cycle where the high-profile west teams are feelin' it. I've seen a lot of Rockford, Lowell and EGR games in the last 2 years (especially at the Freshmen, JV levels) and I just don't see a huge drop off coming. |
