MHSAA Football Stats

I'll check on the Detroit News after I type this up, but I didn't see an article in the box like usual for major articles. There is controversy tonight in A2 as at least a handful of players based on the link below are alleging violations of NCAA rules by the current football staff. The staff denies this though. Will the NCAA investigate this and what will happen?

BTW Angel Eyes and the Detroit News is MIA on this story. No wonder the Detroit News circulation figures went down. You can only print positive stories for A2 and only negative stories for EL. You can't afford to lose more readership with this attitude.

Because it's a non-story and frankly, this happens at every college, regardless of sport. What happened with Northwestern when Rashidie Wheeler died after an illegal practice? Nothing by the NCAA, that's for sure. Having been involved with the Michigan Athletic Department and the Compliance Department, they do things very much by the book. If they didn't, I wouldn't get a letter each year telling me what I can or can not do as a Michigan booster from the Compliance Department.

It's another two-bit article by a two-bit journalist from a two-bit paper which will soon go into exinction.

I suppose that you will claim that Chris Webber to this day never received any money from Ed Martin as well despite the NCAA saying that he did along with other UM bb players.

uhm NCAA dont bring up ed martin. Thats a sour spot with me since U of M has no control over mob gangsters that want to contact atheletes outside of normal chains. Martin was never a booster of the U of M. He was a mobster and that is that.

1. They say that players are falling asleep in class from being over worked, yet Michigan reports one of the highest GPA's in team history...?

2. If you're going talk bad about RR for basing playing time off the people who show up for "voluntary" workouts, then you should just start investigating every major program. I'm not sure why it comes as such a shock to Rosenberg that RR would want the most dedicated players on the field.

No we know Webber took money from Martin all the way back to his DCD days. But there is really no parallel here.

hey speaking of ed martin, did anyone else read the article about him that shows that although what he did for michigan was against the rules, it seems as if ed martin got misrepresented by the media. this article was a few months ago, and it detailed about how he did this for a lot of high school players to help get them to college and get started, and all of it was considered loans. the article argued that martin was a patron and supporter or detroit, and helped many high school students in detroit, athlete or not. just wondering if anyone saw that? im trying to find it and i cant remember where it was.

and about this other crap, and believe me when i say its crap, im not too worried about it. just more people trying to undercut coach rod and his program. no big deal. and i don't know what coach rod did to rosenberg to set rosenberg off so badly where he swore to "take down rich rodriguez," but whatever it was, i bet michael rosenberg is just trying to get his name out there before the free press and its bevy of writers that lack journalistic integrity go under.

My honest (uneducated) opinion on this ... (All I know is what has been talked about on the radio while I was listening for about an hour today)
To me this sounds like one could have 3 different opinions depending what camp they are in.

Camp #1. U of M Hater
- "This is a huge deal and Michigan should be penalized to the fullest extent of the rules. "

Camp #2. U of M Slappy
- "This is what a real team should be doing. If they don't like working hard they can go play somewhere else"

Camp #3. College Football fan that doesn't fit into either of the above (I'm included here)
- "Ya, they might have violated a rule, but eh .. not a huge story and I wont really pay attention whether they get punished or not"

i know the ed martin stuff was off-topic. i was just curious because i wanted to find that article for something else.

and im not sure about that opinion of what a UM slappy would say. i think there are different branches within the UM fan-base of how to react to this. the UM hater is spot on, and so is the general college football fan. but i think there are some UM fans who believe the same as your general college football fan. i think a lot of them see it as a non-issue. i think that there are 2 branches within the UM slappy category that you could conjecture, and they are pretty simple and i'll leave you all to figure out what they might be saying. 1) Coach Rod supporters. 2) Coach Rod haters. of course, one could argue that a Coach Rod hater is a UM hater, and i don't think that would be implausible at all, but that's just me.

NCAA Sanctions
After an internal investigation in 1994 uncovered infractions involving grade tampering by an Athletic Department administrator, MSU President M. Peter McPhereson ordered self-imposed forfeiture of all 1994 victories. Perles was found "not culpable" by the NCAA. However, he was fired by McPherson after the season

So the NCAA never ever imposed those forfeits. It was done by the program itself. That's why I can post websites that don't recognize those forfeits as well and my games go back to the beginning as well.

About the UM men's bb media guide, they probably fixed it after getting caught not doing it like they were suppose to. Basically when UM got caught not honoring those vacated victories, then the NCAA should have imposed even more consequences on UM, but they are getting to be wimps when handing out punishment. You'll never see one of the big programs receive the death penalty like SMU did for football anymore.

Maybe its just me but who cares if some third party website does not recognize a forfeit? What does the ncaa records keepers say about that season officially and what does MSU say about that season officially??

Let's just face the facts here everyone. How "voluntary" is any workout at any major collage football program. The athletes all signed letters that stated the football program did not exceed the allotted hours for training, which is the only official paper trail there is. Now after some they have left they change their story. Therefore why are there not charges being brought against these athletes for falsifying official NCAA documents then? I realize it would be impossible to penalize anyone that no longer has any eligibility left but for those that do there is certainly a way to deal with them.

Not only that ... I bet pretty much any high school team has some (wink, wink) "voluntary" workouts ....

It might not be enforced that you have to show up to the workouts ... but the coaches know and are taking note who is participating.
