Well, it was a decent game. Macomb Dakota's has lots of room for improvement still. Too many dropped passes including one in the red zone with 1:23 to go that would have made a first down on 4th down. Plus probably should have had at least another couple INTs. The Titans DL overwhelmed the Cougars OL though as the QB either kept the ball too long or was under pressure right away. The Cougar QB did make several nice plays. I'm waiting for the highlight shows since it appears to be that the refs blew a potential TD for the Cougars (ruled player down when I dont' think that the knee touched the ground ). A Cougar fan thought that the end zone pass that was called out of bounds was in bounds, but I trust the ref to get that one right since he had a good view plus was hard to tell exactly where the players feet were compared to the white line. Anyways SHS won 28 - 21 in one of my 87.5% or so stat winners.

I have to wait to see the replay to be sure, but the from what I heard even the MHSAA network cameraman thought the refs blew that call in the end zone and
it should have been a Dakota TD. Until I see the replay though I will reserve judgement.

Per the Macomb Daily.
'Dakota trailed, 28-14 at the beginning of the 4th qtr. The Cougars had the ball at the SHS 17 yard line, facing a 4th and 13. Morris dropped back to pass and found JR receiver Deandre Smith in the back of the end zone. Falling to the ground, Smith did his best to secure the ball, and keep his feet inbounds, but the pass was ruled incomplete. Multiple television replays in the press box seemed to confirm, however, that the play was in fact legitimate.' Those are the papers words not mine. Dakota would have been tied and could have kicked a FG to win on that last drive instead of having to go for it on 4th and 2 if the official made the right call on the TD pass.

I feel your pain Searn. As a UM fan I have no problem admitting that the refs blew that call for your Irish. I can relate now, trust me.

I don't blame the refs for the final result ... But they were terrible for both the UM and MSU games vs. ND

No I can't definitively say that the blown call last night cost Dakota the game or in your case ND.
I can say that those calls were bad though and in both cases had a big impact on the game. |

While prepseer's writeup is nice, I don't read about either controversial call on his blog:
http://www.prepseer.com/?p=468#more-468 Last night I didn't take my clipboard and paper like I normally do to games as I just wanted to enjoy the game. It was tough though with so many Dakota fans going in and out of the aisle plus using the stairs to go past me. I did miss the final punt and sack in the game so I could actually go home faster than I got there.

Yeah I was surprised he didn't mention either play. He did bring up Beaurem's 11 yard TD catch that put SHS up 14-7 which was questionable as well.
That is another play I will be anxious to see on the replay.
I agree MrNCAA, some of the fans moving in and out of the stands were ridiculous. I am disappointed though that SHS did not bring in extra bleachers considering they knew the type of crowd that was coming. |

Yep. The Indiana INT that sealed the game for UM probably should have been called simultaneous possession, it looked like Warren wrestled it away after receiver was down. I only caught the end of the game so I'm not sure if there were other calls. |

State Champs didn't show either controversial play as well. I guess that it is up to Michigan High School Hammer Time to do so in order for people to
see the real thing and make up their minds on the calls. I for one like to see replays since I want to see what the real call should have been. Even in my
tivo games if I see something controversial I run it a couple of times provided that it happened in one of my better games plus score is close when the event
happened. I saw a couple of penalties that weren't called on the Cougars as well. One was offensive holding when the QB fumbled so it didn't really
benefit the Cougars.

MrNCAA the game will be on the MHSAA network and like I said the cameraman for the MHSAA network told the Dakota coaches after the game that it was a TD and
that he caught a great shot of it. My guess is that official is going to be embarrased when the replay is shown.

Based on your source, I can't believe that the back judge got it wrong since he should have had a good view. I tend to side with the ref unless I have a clear view. The MHSAA network probably won't show it for weeks though since that has been the case in other sports that I tried to watch in the past. I want to see the replays before a couple of weeks are up or otherwise I might forget to go there. I have enough DirecTV both college and high school football games plus highlight shows to keep me busy. This week there are/were 15 high school football games alone to bring my total up to 64 on the year in that category alone. |

Thanks ftballer67 if you could post it when they get around to it.
It appears that Concord DeLaSalle lost at home to Lakeland Florida in OT. Lakeland committed way too many penalties in the first half. I thought that if they could cut out those that they could win the game. I wouldn't consider it an upset either unlike the USAToday. Don Bosco Prep looked like that they took it rather easy against them. DLS's QB isn't as good as they've had in the past plus the competition is becoming real good. I didn't think the end zone call was a bad one--at least from my view, which wasn't the greatest. It looked close, but I thought he was out. I
don't remember the other controversial call either. Was it the late flag on the sack and fumble play. Unless you're on the field as part of the
conversation with the refs, it's a little hard to know what's going down. I would like to see a replay of the Beaurum TD catch. It looked like he
trapped the ball.

The other controvesial call was ruling the Dakota QB down when in fact his knee never touched the ground and he started towards the end zone, but the refs
called it back. He landed on one of the Titans defenders, not the ground and I had a very good view of that and the replay should confirm that. I will try to
find it on the MHSAA.tv website time wise when it comes out or if Hammer Time comes out with it.
That's why I want to see a great view of the plays in question to see how good the refs were in this game.
On the Titans TD pass in question, I think that the video will prove that he got his hands underneath the football and made the catch. It took 2 - 3 weeks for the Oak Park vs. the Wolves boys basketball game to show up there so perhaps the MSHAA TV Network is putting it on a ton quicker than before , which is greatly appreciated. I did go to the bb game in question, but wanted to see how frequently they mentioned my first game notes (scoring by player by quarter) plus the up to date Wolves scoring stats that I provided them.

I remember the knee play. I think the whistle blew. Maybe that's why the Dakota
QB was able to continue his run unabated. I didn't see him go down, so can't comment on whether his knee hit or not. If you're going to call out that play, you could call out several plays each game. SHS deserved to win based on the way they played. It could be a different outcome the next time around. |
