Had another crazy weekend ... sorry for the delay ... but it gave me time to think about things when it comes to the rankings ... and I went with some changes
... TBD if it's good or bad to think more about it.

Searn,
With respect to the division 2 elite teams the picture is taking shape. Let me bring to your attention this Rochester Adams team. The Highlanders are in a rebuilding year but really they have reloaded. Their only loss was to an undefeated Div 1 team the Clarkston Wolves. The Highlander's shut out of a decent Southfield team calls attention to an outstanding defense that has allowed an average of only 5 points a game. The offense has average over 26 points a game but this is a misleading statistic because 2nd and 3rd stringers have played the 2nd half in almost every game. Adams offensive and defensive lines are one of the biggest, physical, and mobile lines in the state and they have improved with each game. If Adams beats Farmington Hills Harrison and Lake Orion they may be the best division 2 team in the state. Stay tuned.

I'd have to put Portage Central forward as a 5-0 team that deserves some consideration. We'll know more about them soon as they face 4-1 St. Joe this
week, but they should be in the mix if they win.

I very seriously considered Portage Central ... I have a strong "next 5" and they are in it.

dsmith, Are the Highlanders still playing option football? And if they beat HHS and LO, I think you'd have a darn strong case for them being #1 in D2.

BiasedGuy wrote:Thanks BiasedGuy, Yes they are still playing option style football - a veer offense. This style involves the QB in the running game. That adds a great dimension to Adams offense because because Hammet at quarterback can flat out move the ball on the ground. I believe the success of Adams ball hogging ground attack is due the men in the trenches. These gladiators are a sight to behold in action. They open wholes that their backs have no problem finding and exploiting for big gains. While Adams relies alot on their ground game - over committed / out matched defenses have to worry about a new development a seldom used but lethal passing attack. Add to this a a stellar defense that has improved with each game. The Defensive line is big and aggressive and wear down their opponents over 4 qtrs of play. They hit and they hit hard from all angles with good pursuit to the ball. I truly believe this team has the talent, size, and speed to go all the way this year...... Lets see what happens when the Highlanders meet Harrison and Lake Orion later in the season. PS Tony Patritto has done a great job in a "rebuilding year" for the Highlanders.

I'm so late that it's already a weekend late...but just barely...
Here's my list...with some noteable* flaws...previous week's ranking in parenthesis... 1. Detroit Catholic Central (2) 2. Lowell (4) 3. Canton (1) 4. Lake Orion (7) 5. Warren DeLaSalle* (5) 6. Dearborn Fordson (9) 7. Clarkston (6) 8. Detroit Southeastern (16) 9. Romeo* (8) 10. Macomb Dakota* (3) 11. Detroit Martin Luther King (12) 12. Troy* (10) 13. East Grand Rapids (14) 14. Dearborn Devine Child (13) 15. Farmington Hills Harrison (15) Biggest problem with this list is: - DeLaSalle should have moved further down given their losses. - Dakota should be ahead of Romeo. - Troy probably still hasn't done enough to be ranked so high. But...my system isn't quite reliable this early in the season...so hopefully I'll redeeem myself soon. Now...on to the games from this weekend... Haven't looked at them hard yet...but it looks liek MC and Madison are doing well on the "smaller" schools side of things. |
