We have 186 'automatic qualifiers' with 4 or 5 wins. To get the 70 qualifiers by play-off points, I deviated from the MHSAA formula - which would mandate a 18-18-17-17 split between A-B-C-D. In week 5 we usually see some funny breakpoints with a lot more small schools getting in than usually happens in data since 2000. Also this year we have smaller numbers of class D teams.

I went with a 24-20-19-8 split. Feel free to discuss or ask any questions.

I see you eliminated Muskegon Catholic from D8. Probably had to considering they are 2-3.

In looking at the Crusaders, they are 2-3 playing a 9 game schedule. Schedule is tough enough they should get in with a 5-4 record, and I think they have a forfeit win in week 8.

So, of the remaining 3 games they will actually play, they need to win 2 of them to end up 5-4 on the season. Allendale, Inkster, and North Muskegon are the teams left on the schedule. I do believe they will beat Allendale and North Muskegon, but none of the three games is a sure thing.

I'm using the MHSAA list. You'll have to have them correct it, although none of the teams involved make the play-offs. I'd guess they are on the listing because they have some forfeits that affect 11 man teams.

Besides just the formatting is driving me crazy.

MHSAA Football Stats

I will put Posen on my average division breakpoint since they announced it late that they were playing 8 man football. I have emailed Andy over Akron Fairgrove over being included in the CPA since they announced it early enough that the school was playing 8 man football this year. According to the MHSAA all such results weren't suppose to be included in the CPA this fall. So I was wondering why they are allowing this to happen.

Since you want to bring the MHSAA into the discussion, they aren't even following their own tiebreaker rules in the CPA link since Milford should be team #59 as they win the tiebreaker over Battle Creek Central for now as BCC isn't listed on your playoff list. So they aren't always right as we know from past experience.

MHSAA Football Stats

I have Battle Creek Central as 2-3.

That's what the problem is since Milford is 3 - 2 and has a higher CPA number to boot since both have the same SEN on the MHSAA website.

I think that the the tie breaker is used only at the last moment in those rare occasions when there is a tie on at a division break or for final qualifier. I think the SEN (school enrollment number) does not have as much meaning as you might think to the MHSAA.
